Queen Kapiolani Hotel
Ranked #61 of 84 Hotels in Honolulu
Reviewed November 8, 2013 via mobile

Aqua acquired the Queen recently, but this hotel is not what I'd expect from an Aqua property yet. The a/c was anemic, and was a problem in the public rooms our group used, as well as my room. The case goods are dated, the mattresses unforgiving. My room safe had rusty edges. Overall. Somewhere between faded and rundown.

The location is great- not too far from everything, and across from the beautiful zoo. Two blocks from the beach, great view of diamond head , peak a boo of the water from my room. Overall, the staff were helpful and friendly- even if the answer frequently began with "I'm sorry." It will be interesting to see what I expect Aqua will accomplish in the coming months.

Aloha! Thank you for sharing your recent stay with us and we truly appreciate your comments. It was wonderful to hear that you feel the location is great - a few minutes from
world famous Waikiki Beach, across the street from the beautiful zoo and Kapiolani Park with iconic Diamond Head as a back drop. What was very heartwarming was that you found the staff to be helpful and friendly.

In regards to the A/C, we are moving ahead with replacing the current units with a split system unit which will be quieter and more efficient in cooling the room. We are also replacing bedding in phases and should be complete very shortly. We truly apologize for
the condition of the safe and Maintenance has been notified to correct the rusty edge on the room safe.

Again, please accept our apologies and upon your next visit, please do not hesitate to give me a call if I may be of assistance.

Mahalo,
Ron

Our two night stay was wonderful in a junior suite with our own patio overlooking Diamond Head. Checking in was effortless with a very friendly and helpful front desk person. Our room was immaculate, and housekeeping did a great job of keeping it clean daily. Coffee maker was appreciated, but I did wish they included a tea bag or two. Breakfast by the pool was a nice way to start our day. We will return to the Queen Kapiolani if we get back to Hawaii. We chose it for its location and view and we were not disappointed.

Great location - across from beach but not in the busy heart of Waikiki. Across from the zoo and Kapiolani Park.
Very nice staff throughout.
Good value. Good breakfast buffet. Very nice pool terrace. Convenient vehicle portal in back.
Even the basic rooms have a little lanai for outdoor lounging and fresh air.
First time stayed there - would again.
downsides: shows some age in spots; lobby escalators not working to mezzanine/pool levels; no restaurant in house.

Room Tip: If you can get an upgraded suite with view and balcony - worth it. Some of the best rooms in Waikiki...

Elevators, internet access, TVs greatly improved in past few years. Front-desk staff efficient (thanks, Jocelyn), bellmen helpful (thanks, Shane). Good value.

Clean rooms, Friendly staff, and a Great location. The staff was wonderful here. Our flight arrived around 10am and the staff in the lobby were great! They helped us with our bags and called for us to be picked up to go to Pearl Harbor with big smiles on their faces! The girls behind the desk also helped us in picking a place to eat for the night. A great place to spend a few days!

We have stayed at the Queen more than 20 times. The current owner has continually made improvements. The staff is like our family, and make us feel so welcome. The only negative item is the convenience store in the lobby; The man and woman who are there do not make us feel welcome and this has happened every year. We are not the only guests that have experienced this. The Queen has met all our expectations . Mahalo for the great experience.

In regards to the convenience store in the Lobby, which is a concession, we will definitely let them know that they need to welcome our guest, for we are dependant on Tourism to keep our State healthy.

Again, thank you, and it was heart warming to hear that Queen Kapiolani Hotel met all of your expectations.

2nd trip and it was even better than the first.

We stayed at Queen Kapiolani for 14 nights in peak season. Despite being a busy time of the year, all facilities were maintained and easy to access, our room was always clean and staff always made themselves available when required. Swimming pool was always clean and never crowded, also a fantastic view.
There was fun nightly entertainment at the bar and eating area next to pool, it felt like a private show with singers and acrobats comedians and musicians all in one hotel.
Perfect location if you want to be slightly away from the street crowds but still close to everything you need may need. Cross the road and you're at Honolulu Zoo, walk another 5-6 mins and you will find the Waikiki Aquarium, another 30-40 mins and you will reach the entrance to Diamond Head Crater (25-40mins if you wanna make it to the top).
Over all the property was neat, clean a tidy, everything worked, pricing was more than reasonable. The staff made us feel welcome and like family after 2 week. They helped with any general enquires about the island, and if they didn’t know something they found out for us instead of just saying “I don’t know sir”
Special thanks to front desk manager, Rob McPeek , Jocelyn, Brent and most importantly King Dustin who made sure we knew all the best places to eat and was always there to greet us after a night out, we always tried to make it back to the hotel before 11pm so we could say hi and have a laugh.
Thanks Rob, you and your staff were the highlight of our trip. See you all again in the near future.
