“Loud on 3rd floor, good location, average hotel”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

we checked in late night, and told the front desk we would prefer a quiet floor if there's one. We were given room 306. The hotel was undergoing renovation, particularly the elevators. We have to wait for a bit for the elevators to get to the third floor. Our room faces directly to the pool, and breakfast area, and bar. We like it's so close to the pool, but that also means it has a lot of noise from traffic traversing the area.

For some reason, every morning without fail at 5am, there were noises created from carts moving over the tiles (we didn't find out what caused it, either construction or breakfast preparation), but it was not easy to sleep at that point. Every night, there's quite a few people gathering at the bar, and that meant noise, and Sunday night, they have disco nights as well. Also, our room faces to another building's parking lot, and every night, there seemed to be a party going on, but usually the noise died down by 11pm or so.

It is nonetheless in a very desirable part of waikiki for the price, and the staff seems to do a good job maintaining the hotel, and providing needed services to guests. I just wish they have a way to soundproof their rooms a bit better.

Room Tip: The 3rd floor have direct access to pool, pub and breakfast area. Stay away from 306, as it faces th...

I spent three days at the hotel June 19-21 and was really disappointed. The hotel's elevators were being renovated, although we never saw anyone ever working on them. At one point we waited 17 minutes on the 18th floor for an elevator that we just gave up on. Walking down 18 floors in a hotel with no air conditioning in the stairwells was a real treat. Our bathroom was filthy, floors and doors. We found three cockroaches in our room the first night and five the next. The notice on the elevator urged the guests to use the stairs. They were fikthy. Dirth all over the corners and doorways covered in greasy, dirty stains. This hotel may be 1/2 a block from Waikiki but I will NEVER return.

Room Tip: I doubt that there are any good rooms. Every person who shared the elevator/stairway experience with...

, General Manager at Queen Kapiolani Hotel, responded to this review, July 2, 2012
Aloha! We sincerely apologize that your visit to Queen Kapiolani Hotel did not fulfill your expectations and the the Elevator Modernization project impacted your stay. In our on-going
effort to provide a positive "guest experience" to our guest, we felt in necessary to modernize
our elevators, which are over 40 years old. The good news is that the first elevator we are working on will be completed this month, by 7/24/12. The second elevator will be completed by 8/14/12. These two elevators will be working very efficiently, providing very fast service to you, our valued guest.

In regards to the bathroom, the Executive Housekeeper and I have met with the Housekeeping
team to review where we have faltered in our services. Please rest assured that we are very
concerned in providing a clean, quality product for your enjoyment.

Again, please accept our most humble apology and if I can be of personal assistance, please
give me a call at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel.

Mahalo!

Stayed at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel from 6/13 - 6/18/12. The staff were friendly, extremely helpful and the room was nice. The elevators were slow, but since they were being upgraded and there were posted signs, we could make allowances for this. The hotel is conveniently located and very close to the beach and other attractions. The best thing was after returning from Kauai, we were allowed to store our luggage at the hotel for the day for a minimal fee (a special thanks to Kawika, Jarad and Sham for taking good care of us).

We've been guests every year for 20-25 years. The value allows us to experience two-week stays yearly.

New Korean owners have done a great remodeling job. Staff friendly, service great.. Pool area inviting.

One block from the beach, location convenient for walks, bus, zoo, aquarium, and Kapiolani Park.

It's location a bit noisy, but the trade off is well worth it.

Room Tip: Get one of their better rooms.

Had a fabulous time!! Great location close to everything in walking distance. Food is a little pricey but still affordable. Staff were so nice very helpful. Housekeeping was on top of everything, new sheets and towels everyday. It's a nice hotel but if your a high maintance type of person this is not the place for you. We had no problems here and loved it! Absolutely would stay here again!

Perfect average/affordable hotel for a quick stay. Clean, helpful staff, and great location on Waikiki Beach. Good family hotel or 1-2 night stay. Booked the Partial Ocean View room and 1st got a corner room and the view was a bit obstructed so moved down a room and the view of the ocean and Diamond Head was just fantastic from the balcony!

Negatives was the funky "rotten chicken" smell in the lifts. Not pleasant! And the school groups of small children.

Room Tip: Get a Partial Ocean view, it has a balcony and both ocean and Diamond Head views.

This is the fourth time I've stayed at the queen kapiolani in the past two years. I chose to stay here again because I knew it was the most affordable simple hotel that is a block from the waikiki strip, beach, shops and restaurants. There were however a few annoying things this time around - the lifts were slow and I was much more aware of the homeless congregation up on the corner. You get what you pay for I guess and the cheaper hotels are along the far end of the strip near the Zoo so that's where the homeless sit. Overall, good hotel excellent friendly staff especially Kawika - genuine nice concierge who wants to help improve your stay and is not just out for your money.
