We recently stayed in the Terrace building at the Pagoda and we were unhappy with the condition of the rooms that we booked. The furnishings are quite worn, the beds were old and stained, and paint was peeling from the walls. I get that renovations are ongoing, however the rooms should not be rented under any conditions. They are just plain awful.
The only reason for two stars is because of the wonderful customer service from the staff.

Aloha Lunamaui,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of the Pagoda! I am saddened to hear about the condition of the room you received. Our Management Team will be inspecting rooms at the Terrace to make sure they are up to our standards and our Housekeeping staff has been read your comments. I appreciate that you found our service 'wonderful,' and hope that you will consider staying with us again in the future so that we can 'win you back' and you can see the improvements we are making.

The property is conveniently close to Ala Moana Center and Waikiki. We stayed in the Terre building. It is undergoing renovation which we were not notified before our visit. The parking lots were closed and our van was too big to fit in their other lot. We had to find street parking which was a hassle. The rooms were clean and rather quiet, but paint was peeling on the ceilings. There was scaffolding all over the property. I would avoid it until the renovations are completed.

Aloha MOG808,
Thank you for the review! I apologize for the inconvenience our renovations caused you and your party. Though it is a necessity, I understand the frustration of the limited parking and eyesore of the scaffolding. Our renovation at the Terrace is scheduled to be completed around July-August 2014, so if future travel brings you back to Honolulu before then, perhaps we could entice you to stay on our Tower side, where the rooms have been refurbished and are construction-free. Thank you for your consideration.

As a retired couple in town for a family re-union, we found it suited our needs very well. I would classify it as an honest to goodness 3 star hotel - value for money and good at what they do. The staff were consistently pleasant and helpful - especially in the restaurant. We had excellent breakfasts there every day and some good family dinners also. For Honolulu, the room size is generous, clean and well-maintained. You don't have room service, but that's OK because you are near to plenty of restaurants at the Ala Moana centre. They don't have a laundry service so you don't get charged $10 for a pair of socks, but you can use the Laundromat in the basement. No valet parking, but you get a special rate in the car park just across the street. Above everything else, you don't get charged the room rates that you would a few blocks away in Waikiki.
One beef? Noisy air-con in our room, but we turned it off at night
We would definitely return

Aloha Robert H,
Mahalo nui for your review of the Pagoda! I am ecstatic that you thought so highly of our hotel. We are slowly starting to make a name for us outside of Hawai'i, where we have been a landmark for 50 years, so it is encouraging whenever guests from halfway around the world take notice! I am thankful that you enjoyed our central location (outside the hustle & bustle of Waikīkī), our pleasant staff and our delicious food. I look forward to having you with us again very soon.

courteous people working at this hotel; everyone was most helpful! I love the restaurant.;it is very unique and well maintained. The garden and fish were a treat! The food was also excellent. I wish the restaurant and the bar were open till 11 or 12 pm. 9 pm is often too early for me when I am traveling.

From the moment we arrived, we were treated like ohana (family). When making the reservations, we had asked for a quiet floor and were given a very quiet room on the top (12th) floor looking at the ocean. We checked in before our room was ready and left our bags in the storage room. When we returned later, the woman who had checked us in remembered our names. This was particularly impressive, as the hotel was completely sold out our first night and was very busy. The housekeeping was very friendly and did an excellent job cleaning. We were even helped in printing out our boarding passes when we left.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper floors have been renovated and are very nice.

Overall I gave the hotel a VERY GOOD rating. We always stay at Pagoda when we travel to Oahu, because it is centrally located, and not in the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. We stayed in a 1bedroom at the Terrace. Check-in was smooth,no hassle, Friendly front desk staff, we got to the hotel early (about 130pm) and we were able to get an early check-in!! :) As stated at the the front desk the Terrace was being renovated, but didn't notice or hear any of the construction workers. The room we were in on the 3rd floor of the Terrace, seemed to be partially renovated, with new carpets, fresh paint, new shower stall, flat screen tv, etc. however the bathroom floor wasn't completely done, and the shower/tub water took forever to drain. When ever we passed the maid they always acknowledged us with a smile and "aloha", which I thought was nice. It would have been nice to have free wi-fi in the rooms or lobby area...

Aloha Sefa96703,
Mahalo for taking the time to post a review! I am so happy that you always stay with us and that, though we are renovating the Terrace, noise was minimal. I hope you see that we are working on making our property a better product constantly. We will be having wifi throughout the property very soon (we are finalizing contracts), but it will continue to be a daily charge. Finally, it's great to hear that the staff was great and that you were always greeted with an 'aloha,' one of my personal goals. All of us look forward to your return in the near future!
