This was our second stay in Hawaii, and our first in Outrigger Reef on the Beach. The hotel and the staff were amazing. The location too was amazing.

The last place we stayed at was a smaller hotel and did not have the service, ammenities and atmosphere that Outrigger Reef on the Beach can offer.

Things off the top of my head that are great about this place:

1. Location - Right on the beach in a quieter part of Waikiki Beach itself. 3 Great choices of places to eat at your doorstep...literally. I highly recommend 'Ocean House' for breakfast. (Check out my review for Ocean House on Trip Advisor also).

Only 1 minutes walk to the closest ABC store, 3 minutes walk to the shops of Waikiki and many other restaurants. We highly recommend PF Changs, Dukes Canoe Club, The Cheesecake Factory when looking for a place to eat outside of the hotel complex.

2. The Beach on your doorstep - This hotel rests right on the beach, for $30 - $40 per day you can hire 2 x beach beds and a big umbrella for the day, highly recommended for at least 1 day of your trip.

3. The Pool - If you prefer the pool setting then you can easily spend you days here winding down after shopping. Guests of the hotel get given 2 towels each by a poolside attendant each time you are there. There is also iced water with lemon ready for the taking so you need not having to keep buying a bottle of water each time you want to relax in the sun.

4. Free WiFi - The best place to connect up is in the Lobby of the hotel opposite reception.

5. Entertainment - Each night a band will play a nice melody of Hawaiian music, only acoustics so it's not loud but more relaxing. If you have a poolside room you can just open your ranch slider and listen to the music between 6pm and 9pm.

6. Rooms - The rooms are so clean with attention to detail! The cleaning staff did a great job every day in maintaing the room. Each day we came back from being out our room was always spotless to come back to.

7. Staff - The staff were all very really friendly and ready to help.

8. Service Room - Our checkout time was noon, and our shuttle pickup was not until 9pm that night. The staff advised us that were were still more than welcome to laze by the pool and relax for the rest of the day if we liked. And also we were offered a room free of charge to freshen up in. So at 8pm we were given a room for 30 minutes to have a shower and change clothes ready for our trip back home.

Note: If you are keen to do ALOT of shopping, talk to the staff about information about the Waikele Shopping Outlet, approx 25 minutes shuttle drive from Waikiki. Pickup is from outside the Trump Hotel, (across the road from Outrigger Reef on the Beach), the cost is $5 return and is the most reliable and cost effective service. Outrigger Reef was a very pleasant surprise. We expected our 'city view' room (the least expensive) to be somewhat spartan. Instead, it had a small balcony with a view of the pool, a very comfortable bed that included lots of pillows, a great setee, wonderful lighting, wonderful bath vanity, and excellent service and amenities. Its location is great -right on the beach. There's nothing to report that we liked least.

The hotel has recently been redone and brought right up to par and then some with all the beach hotels and especially the old, classic and very expensive hotels which I have also stayed at just down the beach. I wasn't sure because I had stayed here many years ago but the room rates were great. The common areas were great for relaxing, reading, playing on computer or just people watching. The shop had all the munchies and things you would need and the beach with it's lounge chair/ umbrella service with bar was fab. The best part were the two restaurants right on the beach, very, very good. One casual and one nicer. The Ocean House was expensive but food and service excellent and with tiki torches, the whole entire wall opened to the beach and ocean it has got to be the best restaurant in Waikiki - seriously. Also many, many restaurants directly across from hotel. There really was no reason to stray to far! I recommend.

Well, I don’t know how it happened; but in my opinion we ended up with the best room in the entire place!!! It was so good that I had my wife convinced that it was part of her Mother’s Day present, a week early. The weather was not cooperating for the first few days, cloudy and overcast; so it made the entire trip all that more fabulous to be able to go back to our little corner get-away and just chill and watch a movie. It was on the second floor, ocean front which was perfect for listening to the waves crash, and watching people walking by. I normally like the floors that are higher up, and usually request them – but now I’m hooked on the lower floors if there is something to watch, and there was; what a great stretch of beach!!!

I could not get over how clean and fresh the place looked. It has obviously had a major remodel; inside and out. I had stayed there a few times in the past, but moved over to the Royal Hawaiian, and the Halekulani; which I found both to be seriously over priced, pretentious, stuffy, and the service was just ok; i think that they are both in need of a little help.

I decided to try the Outrigger Reef again at the suggestion of a friend that works on the mainland, and has offices in Waikiki. What a Surprise!!! I HIGHLY recommend checking it out; for the price, location, service and overall Hawaiian experience - you can not go wrong...

We arrived early and our room was not ready, however, they did locate a room that we could check into at that time on the 6th floor but we waited until our room was ready on the 10th floor. We were glad we did as the view was much better there. Our luggage was stored in a large room with the bell service and we did not worry about it there. We had a lanai over the pool but could easily see the water and the surfers out there. The room was lovely but nothing extravagant. The bathroom was nice. (I would suggest if someone gets up in the night, that before you go to bed you close the shutters between bath and bed since the separate toilet room has a glass panel and the light shines out.) The hotel was well maintained and nice. The staff is friendly. The reception area is a long area with people sitting behind desks and we walked right by...there was no indication that that was the check-in area. The activities desk was not manned and we asked a person close by if they had a map. The woman was nice and helpful but then went on to tell us about the Wyndham ownership opportunity. I would have avoided that! The location for this hotel couldn't be better. We were right on Waikiki beach. There is no private beach so the vendor on the beach does rent chairs...it is not the hotel renting them. You are right next to Ft. Derussy, a nice green area with walking paths. The hotel parking price is not more than any other hotel in the area. It is just the same. We were able to walk to the new Beachwalk area for food and shopping and then walk a little farther to the International market. I liked it just fine.
