“Room & bath too small”
Reviewed May 19, 2004

For booking 3 months in advance we got a very small room...was dissapointed as my mother worked this hotel back in the 50's and my fathers picture hangs in the lobby (original beach boys) I came back to show a friend that's never been there before, but everything else was great except the sales pitch about Time Share..we're there for relaxation, not listen to sales....all in all the hotel and beach was great and it brought back memories of my uncles canoe and playing music on the beach at night! would stay again, but have a bigger room.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights on my 21st birthday on April 19th-22nd. They gave us a free upgrade which overlooked the pool. They also gave us conjoing rooms for us and our friends. We loved this location. Close to all the stores (and bars!) and restaurants. Nice pool with a couple of restaurants right by the pool. Convient stores right inside the lobby great for getting water, snacks, towels etc. The beach is nice right out front b/c it's not too crowded. We ate at the restaurant on the beach and listened to great live hawaiian music... it was a wonderful hotel for a great price. We will definetly go again! ( P.S. Don't be scared by others negative reviews it is a nice hotel and worth it)

We had a lovely suite in this great hotel for one month. The hotel was always clean and fresh while allowing the ocean breeze to flow throughout.
The open air restaurant, lobby and pool were a great places to relax. The entire staff was courteous and housekeeping was always efficient. We would definately stay at this hotel again if we were to visit Oahu again. We never felt so comfortable away from home.

We stayed at the Outrigger Reef on our honeymoon 16th - 22nd April 2004. We had booked through a package, so did not have a choice of rooms, and when checking in we were told the hotel was full and no upgrades were available. The room was small and cramped, with a view of apartments right opposite our balcony which meant we had to close the curtains for privacy, making the room dark. Could do with some modernisation, especially the bathroom. The hotel itself was very nice - an open lobby and nice pool area. We ate at the Ocean House restaurant, which was fantastic - great food, a table next to the beach, and a view of the sunset. The hotel is centrally located, and is right on the beach. From what we saw of the rooms with Ocean and pool views, they seemed to be more spacious and brighter. I would recommend this hotel, but make sure you pay the extra for a better room.

I would not recommend this hotel. Dirty, thin walls, very small rooms, run down, smelly.

Also far from Waikiki. Only have valet parking.

Stay at the Hawaii Prince.

The Outrigger Reef on the BEACH had more bad qualitys than good. The beach was clean; but you can not take the hotel lounge chairs to the beach; all rent for $15/day per person. The bar/restaurant on the beach would not allow cocktails taken to the beach because it is a public beach. No cabana boys to wait on you with food or even cokes. The people who worked the "hotel beach shack" were interested in selling sunglasses, lotions and any other item to get your money, more than making sure you were comfortable (same for the pool shack) The hotel lobby was very nice, but EVERY single trip through it you were contacted by the time share sales people for a tour. That got really annoying when you walked through the lobby 4-5 times per day. The sales staff at the day-trip desk couldn't help you if you had a question about anything other than their own sanctioned trips. The hotel people at the front desk/conserige were more helpful in that respect. The bathroom was so teeny tiny that only one person could fit into it at a time. No light in the shower; no outlet at the sink area. Our shower door wouldn't stay shut, and water dripped everywhere. Our room was quite adequate for the price, although very outdated and ugly. I understood from others staying at this hotel that the "time share" people had great rooms, ours sure was not. The swimming pool was freezing, positively freezing. The Shorebird food was very good, although the service was slow at the bar. It was a good location on the beach though. Good views of the sunsets and Diamond Head.

This hotel was a picture perfect place to stay for our first time in Hawaii. Our room (partial ocean view) was well worth the few extra bucks. The hotel gives lots of coupons and discounts for food & shopping. The staff really made our stay very pleasant, from housekeeping to valet to conciere...everyone was so helpful & friendly.
Rooms were clean & fairly large, with a couch. I would definately stay here again.....Not to mention the location was very convienent in town.
One warning - if you want a peaceful vacation, stay away from the Fairfield (timeshare) folks. They will entice you with goodies, but I enjoyed my vacation much more without sharing my precious time with them! Highly recommended.
