My wife and I and our daughter stayed here for 9 nights. Check-in was fast and hassle-free. Beachfront location and very close to shops and eateries. Room with balcony was spacious. Housekeeping and room service was fabulous. Staff were friendly and helpful. Some free activities for kids and adults inside the hotel. Will recommend package with breakfast, it was delicious! Did not use the pool but it was large. Valet parking was $35/night...but likely the same in all Waikiki hotels. We only stayed in Waikiki in the evenings. Explored the island! Beautiful scenery and beaches.

Paid top dollar for the room but not disappointed.. Amazing view of the beach. Decor out dated but room spacious and has a balcony. Just love the location and view. Room has a fridge which is a change from many US hotels

Room Tip: You don't need a high floor if you have a beach view- Any level would be good. Street view could...

We had just arrived to check in and were greeted by the most efficient and friendly staff. There was a group of military guys checking in right before us (about 50 of them) and the front desk staff was so proficient that we waiting about 10 minutes. During that time we felt like the entire staff was working hard to process the check in's and be aware that many of us were on vacation. They greeted us, updated us on the time frame and were incredibly good at their jobs. Ambrose who checked us in was hilarious and so helpful. He made our stay...seriously. He would see us in the lobby during our vacation and always said hello, asked about my husband's birthday dinner and really made our stay special. Housekeeping was incredibly friendly as well and kept our room spotless. We will be back. Breakfast at the Ocean House was perfect each day, the waiters are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the shops, the ocean front location and after their new remodel this is the place to be if you don't want to spend a fortune. We love this hotel, an can't wait to return. I had stayed here in the 70's with my father as a little girl and always remembered how much he loved this hotel back then. I'm glad we returned. We travel to Honolulu often and this is our new favorite hotel. We have stayed at many others and this is the true hawaiian experience we were seeking. Each staff member we met was always helpful and kind, the valet guys were awesome and never kept anyone waiting. Biggest plus about this hotel...no resort fee when we stayed, how nice is that? We are planning our return for my b-day in February.

Room Tip: We chose a partial ocean view and were placed in the Ocean tower. Our room was lovely. We had a pa...

We were 2 Adults, and 2 kids (6&8). Ocean view with two doubles (Room 1726)

Pros:
Great location 3 minute walk to shops and restaurants.
Beachfront hotel. Great view (depending on package and price sought).
Not to crowded, pool is kid friendly enough.
Staff are friendly and cheerful.

Cons:
Recommend reef shoes if you are worried about scratches on feet and not used to 50% sand and 50% shell/coral. (less shelly beaches are mere minutes walk either direction)
They can promote preference tourist traps due to being affiliated with a time share type group, so do your research when asking info desk for advice. Don't fall for the hard sell.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay, and loved the location. Would recommend.

My husband and I stayed at the Outrigger Reef for three nights. The location is right in the heart of Waikiki and on the water. We had a beautiful ocean view room. The pool area was nice in that there was plenty of shade besides sun. I would definitely stay there again in the future.

We (my girlfriend, her two teenage kids and I) stayed here at the recommendation of a local buddy, with mixed results. First of all, it's Honolulu, which is not one of my favorite cities, and it's Waikiki, which is incredibly touristy, crowded and expensive. But I thought it would be a good introduction to Hawaii for the teens, who had never been to the Islands before, and I think I was right about that part, as there was plenty for them to do (when they weren't in their room playing video games).

The pool was okay (although small) but the beach was only average - lots and lots of rocks and sharp coral on the bottom and very small waves due to the shallow underwater terrain. We finally wised up and (a) bought aqua socks for everyone and (b) discovered a better beach just a few hotels away towards Diamond Head.

I know this sounds like a negative review but, on the positive side, the rooms and other facilities are very pleasant and the staff was super friendly. I agree with reviewer who said to get an ocean view, although ours must have been the peek-a-boo version. Anyhow, if you're going to stay on Waikiki, this is not a bad option, although I would opt for the Hilton Hawaiian Village if I had to do it again. But truth be told, I would go to any of the other major Islands before I want back to Oahu, or at least Waikiki. I rated this at four stars (or dots, I guess) but if three-and-a- half were an option, that's where I would come out.

Aloha spinnerman84,
We do appreciate that you spent the time to write a review on our hotel & we thank you for your comments. Although it was a mixed review we are delighted to know that you found the staff to be pleasant, the rooms & facilities to be clean. We do recommend that you view the property or destination of choice ahead of time so the facilities appeal & meet your needs.

I am sorry to hear that the swimming area out front did not meet your expectations. Our hotel is situated on a fresh water stream that leads from the mountains to the sea. The first Waikiki settlers were ingenious engineers & they harvested the wetland into ponds filled with a variety of marine life. One of the largest ponds is known as Kalia, our hotel is situated on Kalia Road. In ancient Hawaii, people with a spiritual or physical ailment would come to the pond in search of healing. When the priest (Kahuna) would place a lei around their neck & instruct them to submerge the lei would come off & it was said that the afflicted ones were healed. This particular ceremony was called Kawehewehe which literally means “the removal”. Long gone are our ancient ponds but we welcome all our visitors the healing shores of Kawehewehe. I do hope you to take into consideration our history & visit our hotel again. We will share your feedback with our employees. Mahalo!
