“Nice Hotel, But”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

We stayed here twice over the Xmas-New Year period, while it was a very nice hotel with a great location we were disappointed with a couple of things!! First the good, the room (1744) we had on our first stay for 5 nights was up on the seventeenth floor with a lovely view overlooking the pool and a small view of the beach, a nice room! The second stay (room 1651) was for 2 nights and I requested a high room away from the lifts as the first time we could hear the dinging of the elevators! The room was on the end of the building with a view of the ocean, it was huge with a lounge area and big bathroom, much more comfortable!! The couple of issues we had with this hotel were that they would not allow us to leave a case with them while we went on a 7 night cruise even thou we were coming back to their hotel, that was very disappointing as I had done an awful lot of shopping and had to drag it with us on the cruise. The other issue was some of the staff at the bell desk were not interested in helping you with transport unless you wanted to catch a taxi or a shuttle bus, they never advised you to catch public transport, they actually bagged it, we have since been told that they get a kick-back from the taxis and shuttle buses!! Once they new we were only interested in catching public transport they just dismissed us and did not want to help, that was very disappointing!!
We paid $386 US per night on the first stay, including breakfast and then $316 US per night on the second stay with no breakfast and booked direct through the hotel website! The first morning we tried breakfast at Shore Bird Buffet Restaurant, which was just OK, a little on the unhealthy side for us, everything was fried and there wasn't even a toast station!! The next morning we had breakfast at Ocean House which was nice and we had breakfast there every morning after! Next time I wouldn't get breakfast included as you can go to many restaurants close by for a fraction of the price! We do feel that this hotel was over-priced for what you got!

Room Tip: Ask for a high room away from the lifts

Sitting at Dukes (excellent buffet for breakfast) and can't understand why Reef is rated higher than Outrigger Waikiki. The room was great and so was the service. However the pool and beach left a lot to be desired. There was a no diving sign by the pool, but there were kids diving and we got soaked a couple times. Security did nothing about it. The beach was tiny and if you didn't get a spot first thing in the morning, they were taken up by "for rent" loungers. The lunch buffet at Shorebird was disappointing. Super thick slices of pineapple does not constitute a "variety of fruit". I understand that smoking is a touchy subject, but lots of people do it and we felt like outcasts. The designated smoking area was on the street next to the loading docs. I am not asking for a smokers lounge, but a bench would have been nice. So overall why stay at Outrigger Reef and pay more if you can stay at Outrigger Waikiki and save.

This hotel is certainly lives up to all the great reviews. Our stay was perfect. The entire staff from the front desk, bellmen, housekeeping, concierge and all the restaurant's staff makes this hotel the amazing place it is. We stayed in the spacious 1 bedroom suite and was just right for 3 of us. Clean and comfortable and designed with the travelers in mind. The food in all the restaurants was delicious, everything being fresh and of great quality. Can't rave about this hotel enough. Would stay there again without a doubt!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the 1 bedroom suite. It had more than enough space for 3 of us. The bathroom's lay ou...

We booked through pleasant holidays for our vacation and they booked us into this hotel. We chose a city view room and after reading some of the reviews on tripadvisor I was worried that our room was not going to have any view. We read that the hotel staff was not very helpful and that was the furthest from the truth. Our city view was overlooking the pool on the 5th floor which was nice but we asked if we could get a corner room and they were more than helpful and after doing some checking and a few phone calls we were in a corner room cityview no problem . I wish I took some names so I could give them some credit. The only reason I give this hotel a 4 is because Ive been taught that theres always room for improvement. The timeshare reps were very nice and not to pushy if you let them know you were not interested. The Shorebird restaurant was very nice but a little pricey. The concept was fun cooking your own food on there grill but it was very hot and we couldnt stand near the grill for more than a couple of seconds at a time.We had to stand 3 or 4 ft back and run up to the grill when it was time to turn our steaks. Dont get me wrong It was fun but hot.Theres a cook there to help .(hint if your female young and pretty you have a better chance of help )HA HA. All in all we loved the place its up to you whether you have a good, great or awesome time in paradise we chose to have an awesome time and would recommend this hotel and stay here again when we return.

Room Tip: The higher the room the better view . I will ask for a corner room when we return very roomy and you...

Stayed here for 5 nights on the way home from travelling the states. Stayed in a city view one bedroom suite on a high floor. Upon checking I asked about upgrading to a bigger room, but was advised they were booked out, so they organised a rollaway bed which my son appreciated after sharing a bed with his brother for 3 weeks! Even though the hotel was booked out, a lot of service personnel were staying here as well , it didn't really look that busy, unless you wanted to eat at 6pm, when the restaurants had a 1 hour at least wait time. Eat early, they have specials at the shore bird if seated before 5.30 (if you don't mind cooking your own steak and paying for the privilege!) or book early if you want to eat after that. Checkin was good, very helpful bellhop. Check out took a lot longer as there were a lot of military staff were checking in at same time.
Note, they invite you to free breakfast and presentation of activities do do around the island, luckily I had read up on trip advisor, this is a timeshare sales pitch. We declined and booked tour of the island online for a fraction of price offered at hotel. Easy walking distance to Ala moana shopping centre, and main Waikiki drag. Heaps of restaurants around and a huge abc shop (like 7 eleven) across the street which sold alcohol, and good cooked food and sandwiches and other souvenirs etc... Didn't use the pool, which was pretty small for such a big hotel, but it is right on the beach..
Buffet breakfast at shore bird was good value at $15 each but only had scrambled eggs, no other cooked options and no toast?? Hot ham and turkey were yummy though and a lovely view of the beach? Had a nice stay, considering all the other options in Waikiki, I may look around next time for somewhere abit quieter.

This beautiful relaxing beachfront hotel was well worth paying for, it's location was so handy to everything our oceanfront room was located in the oceantower with superb direct views of surf &sand from our balcony, what more could you ask for as the ocean waves rolled over. You have plenty of choose for meals but there's plenty of choice within walking distance as well, only one negative would be the pillows are like large cushions not like a normal sized pillow, so outrigger we will be back to soak up the ambience!!!

Room Tip: You must choose oceanfront not ocean view if you want a beachfront room over looking the water

The Outrigger is big hotel directly at the Waikik beach. The beach itself is small and the few beach chairs are in great demand.
The hotel is very clean, the rooms are nice and ther is only partial ocean view. Infront of the hotel there is the beach with nice sand and great water. In the middle of the hotel you can relax at the pool and can listen sometimes to life music and entertainment. Behind the hotel you can find some nice reataurants and do some excursions to the city and do some shopping.
The breakfast ist okay, not very varied but considering you are in the US the breakfast is quite good.
