“Nice location on Waikiki”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Waikiki is basically Vegas in the tropics now. But the Outrigger Reef has very good service, good rooms & a great location out of most of the madness with a slice of beach. It's a great value for the area. Also the pool is quite nice. Breakfast buffet is good also. Great for families.

Our 14th stay at the Outrigger, and each and every year, the service is outstanding! I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel, it's staff, location, and most importantly, its heart...We've grown with this hotel through its renovations, and always come back, year after year, because you are treated like family and that is important to us... Thank you for staying true to your standards! Mahalo!

We were at The Outrigger for 5 nights from 12/30/-12 to 01/04/2013 in a partial ocean view room that also overlooked the pool area. The room and bath were updated and comfortable. With a 4 hour time difference to adjust to we took advantage of the balcony's perfect view of the new years eve fireworks that were set off from a barge directly in front of the hotel. We did the free vow renewal ceremony on the beach the next morning then set out for a day of exploring the island. Love the location, Shorebird and kaa

Room Tip: We booked early and paid $299 for a partial view room. The going rate when checked in was $499 per n...

The hotel has a perfect location, in the heart of Waikiki Beach. On the left, you see the Diamond Head, while on the right, the Hilton Hawaiian Village (which is great, as on every Friday night, they run fireworks and Outrigger hotel is the best place to view them from). The hotel has 2 restaurants, pool, Starbucks and you can walk to pretty much any store, restaurant you would like. The service was excellent, the front desk personnel could not have been nicer, and so was the breakfast staff. As honeymooners, they welcomed us with a bottle of champagne and the best room with full ocean view - we felt like we are watching a live TV, amazing. Bonus: king size rooms are very big. We were very happy with all amenities and it raises up to its price. All worth if you are looking for indulgence.

Room Tip: Ocean view, lower floors.

We had a wonderful stay at the Outrigger Reef. It is located right on the beach with a beautiful view of Diamond Head. The room we had was very comfortable and clean. It had a nice balcony overlooking the pool where we could sit and listen to gentle island music from the bar in the evening. (The music stopped around 10 pm so as not to interfere with sleep.)
The location is great. We could walk to many of the shops and restaurants in Waikiki which is important because the one-way streets and traffic make driving in Waikiki a challenge. Many top rated as well as chain restaurants were near by. Shopping opportunities abound but bring that credit card because Waikiki is expensive.
The hotel has 3 restaurants: the pool bar & grill, a beach-side bar and grill and a beach-side sit-down, nice restaurant. We had breakfast at the first two. The breakfast buffet at the beach-side restaurant was good with a variety of local fruits to sample. The pool-side restaurant opens earliest (6:30 am) and provides table service. They served a nice meal too.
For travelers who wish to rent a car, Hertz has an office in the lower lobby and we were able to arrange for a one-day rental when we needed it. Be aware that during high season it's better to pre-book a car if your plans allow it. Also the office closes at 3 pm so late drop-offs have to be made at another hotel about 4-5 blocks away. That was not a problem for us as it gave us the opportunity to stroll through the International Market on the walk back to the Outrigger.
Would we go back? You bet. I'm sure you will enjoy your stay as much as we did.

We had a parial ocean view room, with adequate views of water, a pleasant balcony to relax on, clean room, great service. This is our first 4 star hotel, paying bigger prices than normal. I must say you get what you pay for. Prime location, we could walk to Hilton Hawaiian Village from here, or walk down waikiki via the beach and see all the shoreline hotels. Also, within a city block back you have 2 ABC stores to get whatever essentials you forgot. Plenty of great restaurants (especially Roys) and bars to choose from.

Again the oprice is so high that next time I will take a lower scale hotel nearby and save 3-400 dollars and use that for sight-seeing. But it was nice to indulge ourselves.

Room Tip: High floors have great views & quieter

Stayed here during a one-night business stopover. I have stayed here a number of times over the years. I stayed in Room 830 in the Pacific Tower. This room faces the new Trump Hotel across the street - the 8th floor looks out onto the very pretty, glasses-in pool area, all blue with muted lights, and the roof garden of the Embassy Suites kitty corner from the hotel. I like a city view almost as much as an ocean view, I like to check out what's going on locally. I found that the view was just fine, as the 8th floor was just high enough to see the local goings-on, and it's high up enough so that it was not noisy. I was not bothered by street noise at all. Facing the other buildings was not constricting at all on this floor, but lower that floor 8 would have a narrower view. This room was recently renovated, with grass paper masses, light brown, an extremely comfortable bed with non-crush pillows. Bathroom had a raised sink, the type that sits on the counter like a bowl. That normally does not work for me since I am only 5 foot 3, but this sink was just a touch lower so I had no problems. Amenities are full-size and very light-scented, not the blasting coconut or floral that you get in Hawaii. Plenty of thick towels. Real coffee maker (4 cup), not the single cup pieces of junk a lot of hotels have now. Staff was unbelievably pleasant, helpful and efficient, I was very impressed even though the staff here is normally that way. The Reef really knows how to get it done right when it comes to customer service. There is a nice workout room in the basement, three treadmills, two ellipticals a couple of benches and some free weights. Quite doable, but if you are military (active, Reserve or retired) you can walk over to the Hale Koa and use their full gym. There is a Starbucks right in the l lobby at the Reef, a Dennys around the corner for breakfast and just about any type of food you want very close by. I have eaten in their restaurant and I liked it a lot, reasonably priced and a little hideaway when the hubbub gets to you. Overall very pleasant, I would definitely return and I'm sure I will.

Room Tip: If you prefer an ocean view ask for the Ocean Tower. The Pacific Tower is fine, with city views, but...
