The Outrigger Reef was absolutely a perfect Honeymoon Hotel. Location right on Waikiki beach and walking distance to shops. Staff were amazing. Complimentary champagne for honeymooners on arrival. Ocean view from our bed. Palm trees and balcony. So central to everything. Bus available if you wanted. Absolutely perfect location. Ask the locals which tours are best as they know the area and are so helpful and friendly. Cheaper than booking with travel agent too. Swimming pool very clean and inviting. Happy hour lasted many hours and bar staff fantastic, even remembered our names which made us feel so welcome. Highly recommended and we will return. Pearl harbour, Live Volcano and Catamaran dinner cruise must do activities as well as Jurrassic Park, Gilligans Island, Godzilla, 50 first Dates film sites well worth touring also. North shore...hire a car (Hotel can help you) and travel around. Aloha!!

Room Tip: Ask for Higher floors and Ocean view room. Let them know if on honeymoon.

Our stay at the Outrigger Reef over March Break was very enjoyable, albeit a little more exciting than we bargained for. We had just put our grandson to sleep when we smelled something burning. Thinking it was something we left plugged in, we searched frantically until suddenly the alarm in our room went off, startling us nearly out of our wits. An announcement to evacuate followed and we grabbed our grandson and proceded down four flights, worryiing the entire time that it might have been something in our room that triggered all this furor. Wondering where we were to proceed, someone indicated smoke billowing from the ocean end of the hotel. Several sirens announced the arrival of MANY fire trucks and emergency vehicles. Confusion ensued with people (like my daughter and son-in-law) who had been out for the evening frantically trying to get in, while the rest of us were finally being herded out. After two hours on the streets (many of us in our Jammies), we were allowed to return to our rooms. Turned out to be one of the ducts from the Ocean Terrace Restaurant's kitchen.

Other than that bit of unusual excitement, our stay at the Outrigger Reef was very pleasant. The rooms were kept very clean, the staff was friendly and helpful for the most part, and if you chose to eat on the premises, the food was good. Best of all, we were on the beach. Though a little rocky in places, one could wander a little to the left towards the Royal Hawaian or right towards the Hilton (fireworks Friday nights) and find lots of smooth sand and calm waters. But we enjoyed "playing" on Outrigger's beach where we also had access to Shorebird's beach bar. Speaking of The Shorebird Restaurant, they offer a quality breakfast buffet, which is all the more affordable if you use a discount coupon found in many of the little coupon books around Waikiki. In summery for a fairly reasonable price, we found this to be a lovely modern, well-maintained hotel which certainly met all our needs. It is centrally located to all the shops and restaurants of Waikiki.

Room Tip: We paid for upgrades to Ocean view rooms. On arrival we were given two adjoining rooms on the sixth...

When we were preparing for our trip, this was the number 3 rated hotel on Tripadvisor.Very deserving.Local bus stop within 2 blocks, beach at the doorstep of the on site restaurant.Pleasant airy lobby. Our checkin girl was Alohaloni, just a sweetheart and very friendly person. We had requested a room on a high floor, and got one on the second highest floor. On our right was a perfect view of the ocean, straight down was a pool view, and to our left the city view. The elevators were very quick and smooth, and plenty of them. The pool was salt water and was always very clean. We found the Waikiki area to be very walkable. We walked to the zoo,the aquarium, various parks and more stores than you could ever want.I would highly recommend this hotel.Location,location,location.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better the views.

They were remodeling the Ocean Resturant, which we were unaware of...so our nice dinner had to be out in the city. The Shorebird food was O.K. we had the breakfast buffet, nothing really to talk about. We did have a lunch and a dinner there...just not much on choices. Dinner you cook your meat yourself and have a big salad bar, that was o.k....The food in general in the hotel is Fair. I also felt the drinks were watered down. They have an 1800 Margarita for $9.00...Just make sure they pour the 1800...I noticed many times them pouring the Well Tequilia...which if you drink Tequilia, you know the difference. Also, not fond of the State Law - One drink per person and you can not have a drink backed up...So if you are at the pool, both of you have to get up and walk to the bar to get your drink. If you are at the bar or a table, you better finish your drink before the other gets set down....Another odd law - No Alcohol on the Beach...so forget about renting a lounge chair ($50 a day) and having your mai tai's....
I would grade the cleaniness of the room as FAIR. First I noticed a few hairs on the floor...when the door is open, you see it. I am sure when they are cleaning, the door is open, so it hides behind the door. It was there the whole 6 nights. Also, they just Wipe down NO cleaners are used. After noticing the build up in the sink, soaking in the tub was out of the question!!! (Women will understand this more than men...the makeup and toothpaste leaves a film in the bowl even if you rinse well.) I noticed the build up on day 2!! So I know it had to be some previous build up as I don't where that much Blush. I took some tissue and rubbed just to make sure it was build up and not stain. Then of course, I start noticing the mirrors with streaks. You can also see the entrance area (ours had tile) they mop/wipe down when the door is open and you can see the v-mark build up behind the door when open.

Room Tip: Ocean Fronts are nice...completely face the Ocean. I am sure some have a view of Diamond Head, ours...

The Outrigger Reef on The Beach was top of the line. The room was excellent, the pool is probably the larges in Waikiki, and the beach is great. Staff was extremely helpful will everything from check-in to outings around the island, to check-out. Parking staff were extremely helpful and friendly. My wife and I have stayed here six times in the past and look foward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are excellend, but if you are not going to be in the room often then a room with n...

We recently stayed at the Outrigger with a group of single travelers and the hotel did a great job of providing interesting and cultural activities such as lei making, hula lessons and some of us even learned to play the ukulele. The location, right on the beach was perfect for daytime relaxation and our proximity to Beach Walk made nightlife a breeze.

Their happy hour bar was the main attractions and frequented by locals so a great and safe place to meet. Nightly Karaoke at the Shorebird was also a fun hang out for singles.

Non ocean view rooms overlook adjacent buildings, so if you are able to splurge for an ocean view or ocean front, go for it.

Breakfast buffet for $13.95 plus tax ($17) was an abundant treat.

Room Tip: Choose ocean view or ocean front - sunsets are spectacular! City view rooms are not really city, bu...

My husband and I stayed here for a babymoon at the beginning of this month and had a great time! The hotel is right on the beach and the pool lounge area is nice as well. Our room was nice and the facial bar soap and lotion provided in the rooms is great! There are lots of discounts available for breakfast the the Seagull buffet to take advantage of as well. We got a couples massage from the spa which was great, but watch out for the gratuity/service charge - it is already included when they ring you up so if you feel you want to pay more that 18% for a tip the add additional dollars to the reciept.

The location of this hotel is also great because it's right on the beach, but with in walking distance of lots of great shops/resturants. We thought we were staying at the hotel with Duke's in it, but beware there are two Outriggers and this one does not house Duke's.
