“Great place at a great price!”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

We stayed here in a deluxe studio with kitchen from 9/4-9/8/2013. Room was very large, clean, and we had a view from the 14th floor of Waikiki and the ocean with the Royal Hawaiian hotel right in front of us. Did not notice any street noise as we were up so high. The staff here is super friendly and willing to help with anything. Just 2 short blocks through Duke's Lane and we were at the beach. Could not ask for a better place to stay for a family at a better price. the free parking is a terrific added bonus! The Seaside restaurant around the corner had reasonably priced meals if we didn't feel like cooking. We will defiantly stay here again when we get to Waikiki!

Room Tip: Our higher floor had almost no street noise.

A Very friendly staff, the free overnight parking and a huge clean and quite room with a small kitchen made my stay in Honolulu to a great experience. The Ilima is well located in the heart of honolulu.

We stayed at the Ilima because we won a visit in a 1 bedroom suite at a silent auction. The suite was large and very comfortable. I would recommend it to young families as there was a pull out sofa in the living area and very well stocked kitchen.
There is a self serve laundry area on the 3rd floor so if you are staying more than a few days - you don't have to pack as much, just wash things out and take less luggage- or at least leave room for all the new t-shirts you are going to be buying and bring home.
Yes, its a bit dated, some nicer bedspreads would go along way to update it, and if management is reading this- the wall unit should go and the TV should just sit on the dresser so there is more room in the main living area.
The bathroom had a jetted tub and good water pressure. The toilet was a good flusher which can make or break a hotel stay for me.
Location was close to shopping and is you have rented a car you can enter and exit Waikiki from the back side instead of fighting all the traffic on the main road.
If you are interested in a good, solid , functional hotel for a fair price - leaving you more money to spend on daily activities, then The Ilima is a great choice .

Overall, a good hotel. Location can't be beat at this price. No, you can't see Waikiki, but views of canal & golf course & mountains are nice & tropical. Just a couple blocks to busy Kuhio & Kalakaua Aves with their shops & restaurants & people watching. Another block or 2 to the beach, so definitely convenient without paying astronomical beach-side prices. Bathroom looked recently updated & was clean. Room wasn't anything special but was spacious and clean and having kitchen was a plus for doing your own breakfast and reheating left-overs from a restaurant, etc. AC worked adequately, and this room also caught trade winds well. We didn't have any trouble getting a parking place in their garage but might have had we taken it out at night (both times we parked we were in place by late aft.). All the desk clerks were very friendly & helpful; they have menus for local restaurants & a map of the local area which were both appreciated by us. Also, if you go to the beach, they have a bin of beach mats to borrow in the lobby. WiFi in room worked well.

Room Tip: Higher floors at the back get a view of the canal, golf course & mountains. 809 was at end of ha...

For what this hotel offered, the value for money was excellent. Our room had great king size beds, complete with a kitchenette and a view of the mountains. Also, it is centrally located in Waikiki.I would recommend staying here if you are after a great base for exploring Hawaii, without the sky high price.

Room Tip: Ask for a mountain view, it's beautiful.

We decided to stay away from the Waikiki beachfront and were rewarded with wonderful views of the mountains, rainbows and fresh trade breezes. It was my fifth trip to Hawaii but my first in over 20 years, and my family's first. The Ilima staff were the best hotel staff we encountered anywhere, including mainland USA: friendly, warm and gracious. These were the values of old Hawaii which shone through. You felt you were at home and nothing was a hassle. We had a kitchen and plenty of space to spread out. We didn't have to spend big eating out as we had a supermarket only a short distance away. My son and I even got the chance to ride some decent sized waves on a surprise December south swell at Canoes, Populars and Queens, just five minutes walk away. I have already recommended the hotel to others. At the end of the day, it was a place where you could switch off, feel safe, comfortable and cared for...all at an affordable family price.

Stayed for three nights (two stays) in early August. Receptionists were friendly and helpful, and I was allowed to leave my bag with them as I travelled light to Maui for a couple of nights in between. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the beach and the area is safe despite the proximity to a bar a few steps away. Wi-Fi worked well. The Standard rooms are a bit dated but very spacious. Even though I didn't use the kitchenette, I felt it'd be perfect for a family for a longer holiday. Prices were reasonable for a Hawaiian summer.
