“Ali'i Tower”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

We have just returned for a 2nd time to the Ali'i Tower and cant praise it highly enough. The tower has undergone a renovation since our last visit. The rooms are spacious and nicely appointed. The resort is well maintained with no signs of aging. I particularly like the Ali'i tower as the private pool is a huge plus. We managed to get a great rate during the year and dealt directly with the Hilton through their website. The tower is the most exclusive in the resort and it is definitely worth the extra to stay here. We love the location as it's half way between Ala Moana Shopping Centre and the restaurants and shops in the Waikiki strip - about a 15 minute walk.

Room Tip: We chose a resort room this time - facing the pool. A lovely aspect especially for the fireworks on...

We only stayed here one night as a splurge on our final evening in Hawaii. The room cost us $300, which was almost as much as we paid for five nights on Air b'n'b. Check in was not as fast as I had expected and there was a huge number of people checking in and hanging around the reception area at the time which created a bit of confusion.

The room itself was nice, it wasn't great, but it was clean and comfortable. There was an adjoining room which had a paper thin door separating the two rooms, and behind that door was a screaming toddler and a fighting couple, that was fun overhearing their argument that night.

The location of the hotel in relation to Waikiki and the main shopping district is about a 20min walk. If you want to be in the heart of Waikiki than this place isn't for you unless you are prepared to walk everywhere of take a cab. In saying that this resort is self contained, there are multiple restaurants and shops within the village so if you don't want to venture than you don't have to.

After only one night without using any of the amenities such as the pool or internet, upon check out they asked for the $30.00 'hotel fee,' we were outraged that we were with them for a mere sixteen hours and they wanted to charge us an addition fee. They ended up waving it in the end luckily. Nor did they ask how was our stay etc.

In all I wouldn't come back and stay here again unless I had young children. The location is too far from Waikiki, the prices are too high for the room quality and hitting you with additional fees, no thanks!

Aloha MRyanPhotography ,

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback from your recent visit with us. We are very sorry to learn of your disappointment with our front desk and the disturbance from your neighbors. Our newly renovated front desk has recently opened with multiple pods making it possible for our front desk to assist more guests at a given time. We appreciate your patience during the registration process and are happy to hear that we have delivered on our guest promise of providing a clean and comfortable room. Our daily resort charge offers an array of benefits as listed on our website to maximize our guests’ stay. Stayed there over Christmas. End of the Waikiki beach. Resorts facilities nice, restaurants, pools, shops , beach activities. Pretty big resort. Bit pricy, but it is Christmas at Hawaii, what do you expect. Very nice buildings. Rooms clean, comfy bed. Lush trees, birds, penguins, turtles, very Hawaiian. Loved it. Close to a la Mona mall for shopping.

Great hotel, service and amenities. We stayed in the Ali'i tower and only used that pool but the others looked nice, albeit busy, as well. The Friday night fireworks from the Ali'i pool deck is awesome!! No fighting for chairs plus there was a cocktail hour with drinks and appetizers. The hotel seems to be very well-maintained and the dining selection is extensive. Did not seem crowded although it was almost to capacity. Occasionally there was a wait at the Starbucks (but when isn't there?). The African Penguin outdoor exhibit was educational and entertaining and the daily 8am briefing was very informative. The hotel is in an excellent location offering the largest expanse of beach and VERY easy walking distance to Beach Walk and Ala Moana. We were here as a couple but planning to return shortly with our 3 sons. Great resort for couples or families.

Room Tip: Ask for the Ali'i tower

This was our second stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, the last time was right before Christmas and this time it was just after Christmas for New Years. You could definitely see the difference in crowds but all the same it was still an enjoyable experience. We were in the Ali Tower which has it's own pool on level two overlooking the beach which is very relaxing and calm, especially with a cocktail in your hand as the sun sets. The pool loungers were full from about 9am every morning but we went down around 11-12 and always got chairs with footstools while we waited for the frequent turnover of people coming and going. The kind pool attendants always found us a spot within 30 mins.

The Friday night fireworks and show are awesome but don't bother paying for tickets into the seated area unless you are a bit older/requiring seating for a medical reason as you can see the show from the side lines just as good.

The Luau is really cool and I do recommend doing it even though (like most things in Hawaii!) it's pretty pricey. We paid for the Gold tickets but if I did it again I wouldn't bother as the only plus was that you got to the buffet quicker. The food at the buffet is FANTASTIC and the show is really cool, but then I'm a sucker for the Polynesian dancing (and muscly men!)

The restaurants at the hotel are nothing fabulous so we ate out every night this time. It's a short stroll along the beach to the main hustle and bustle of Waikiki or a $10-15 taxi ride if you're feeling lazy.

If you are looking for options for breakky or lunch to take back to the pool I highly recommend the Lanakai smoothie place (really good juices and smoothies) or CJs Deli (good salads and sandwiches) or the bigger of the ABC stores (there is one by Benihanas at the Tapa Tower thats pretty big) have plenty of take away sandwiches, salads, sushi, bagels etc etc and way cheaper than the Pronto Pickle/Fresh Connection place that provides over priced, mediocre bland options. I only discovered the ABC store on my last day :(

If you are wanting a pamper session I recommend going further than the hotel's overpriced spa and walking 10 mins to the Ala Moana Shopping Mall where there is a lovely spa called Ho'ala for 2/3 of the price. It's a proper spa environment and therapists are really lovely.

All in all though I would recommend this hotel as it was comfortable, convenient, friendly, clean and you feel like you are in paradise when you are at the Ali Tower pool...bliss. Hawaii is expensive in general so this hotel is no more overpriced than any of the other higher end ones so if you accept and realise that you will enjoy your stay more. Of course there are cheaper options, but we were happy to pay for this place.

Just be aware of the busy periods and you should be fine!

Room Tip: The Ali Tower is worth the price as it has it's own pool which is less busy and bustly that the...

While we stayed at this property, during the new year holiday the elevators broke down 4 out of 7 days we were there. This was the Tapa Tower. You had no access to your room. It was quite noisy were our room was located on the 5th floor. There is a $30 resort fee which I feel you don't get any thing of value. On the positive the Friday night show and fireworks is great. There are fish and birds throughout the property.

The hotel had many good restaurants and shopping on property. The inside of the room; however, was very, very average bordering on below average. I paid the same amount for a room at the Plaza in New York and got a room a million times better.
