“Friendly but tired”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

This is a huge property. At the time of our stay there were a lot of works going on which were slightly frustrating but didn't really impact our stay.
Overall the hotel is a little outdated but it is a beautiful location. The staff are very friendly. As Hilton honours Diamond members we were upgraded to a beautiful corner room on the 25th floor of the rainbow tower. The fireworks happened right in front of us and that was great.
There were three downsides to our stay.
1. There is not Hilton honours lounge and the breakfast area is a joke. A bow of boiled eggs and some banana bread don't really count as breakfast. For the chains top customers I expected more. When we did have breakfast at the restaurant where the food was amazing we got something like an $8 discount. A little disrespectful I thought. Clearly even management thought the lounge breakfast so worth no more than that.

2. You have to pay for the chairs in front of the beach. Not really sure if this is just a Hawaii thing as it was our first time but I thought it was a little strange and annoying.

3. There is no gym in the rainbow tower so we had to walk to another tower every time we wanted to use the gym..... I think it must have been an after thought

Overall however it is a nice property with very friendly staff and I do have to say I take my hat off to whoever runs this place as it is just huge.

Room Tip: The Ali tower and the rainbow tower we probably my top choices of accommodation. If you can get a co...

I will preface this by saying that I am not a fan of crowds, and don't love Waikiki because of that. Hilton Hawaiian Village has lovely grounds and great access to the restaurants and shops of Waikiki.
We stayed in a room with two queens for 4 of us. The room was very very small. The beds were small. There was a very small refrigerator inconveniently located in the bathroom. The bathtub did not drain well. The 'kid' pool with the slides was very pretty but very crowded. We didn't even bother to go there.
Food and drinks located on site were predictably expensive.
There was nightly entertainment near one of the pools, which could make for a pleasant evening.
The view was beautiful!

Room Tip: ocean view is nice :)

Awesome location on a beautiful beach but a good walk to the Waikiki main area. While the beach wasn't too crowded, the resort itself was busting at the seams. All but one pool was quite small and only one hot tub at the spa. Would be nice to have an adult pool. Everything you need is in the resort complex and all of the employees where helpful and friendly. We stayed in the Tapa tower and our room was huge.

Great resort in the middle of waikiki, outstanding beach front with plenty of food choices at the resort or a short walk away. Staff are very friendly and helpfull. Great pools or a very clean beach to go swimming in. We paid $9.00 extra a day for a partial ocean view and got a pleasant suprise when we first got to our room as view was outstanding. The room also had a twin sofa bed which was perfect for our six year old.The only thing i wasnt happy was the bed as it was lumpy.Worth trying this resort.

My family stayed at the HHV in Honolulu on Waikiki for our vacation this year. I rate this hotel "resort" (i.e., very large hotel with towers, large grounds, etc) as a 4 Star Deluxe which for me means they are able to do large numbers of guests relatively well. The drawback is... it's a big property and you quickly don't feel that 'special,' if you will. I am accustom to some of the better 5 Star hotels in Italy - more grand, yet they really try to connect with you. The HHV Waikiki did a good job and a good effort (the service I encountered by the concierge as well as front desk staff was very good) with the number of guests they try to serve. Overall I think you will find the position nice (on Waikiki, furthest up the beach if you will), the quality level a good 3+ to 4 star, the breakfast was VERY good, Oh! and their on property restaurant food quality also good. I feared it would be a bit more cruise ship quality, but was sweetly surprised. Nice bathrooms, shower and and separate glass-walled tub...very large room (which they called a suite), we had a great view of Diamond Head.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room with a view of Diamond Head.

Had an amazing time! From day one we were comfortable. Entire staff from house keeping to bartenders were professionals and good at what they do. Make sure you go see Joseph at the lower pool deck. Our room was a one bedroom suite in the Tapa tower. Plenty of room for family of four. Everything was close. My daughter learned to surf with two lessons. She was surfing within the first minutes of her first lesson thanks to Beau the instructor. Pools get a little crowded. Too many people saving chairs and not actually there using them. Beach is beautiful. We got there every day before 9 and had no problem getting great real estate. Chairs and umbrella are expensive but what can you do other than buy your own. Great experience all around for whole family. Stay here!

Room Tip: Get to beach by 9 am. Tapa pool nicer than super pool if you don't have young ones.

Perhaps its the iconic rainbow tower, its long history, or its prime location on Waikiki beach, but this huge Hilton property rightly deserves its impressive stature in the Hawaii tourist scene. Sometimes it can be expensive to stay here (depending on the season), noisy, and undoubtedly you'll be one of many in a crowded place at times, but I love the modern, generous-sized rooms, the multiple shopping and outdoor (especially water) choices, and its numerous restaurants and nightly luau. Staff is always helpful, competent and friendly, giving one an authentic view of the 'aloha spirit' found on the islands. This place is perfect for families or first-time visitors by older couples, singles and honeymooners might want to choose the upscale Grand Waikikian next door.

Room Tip: Ocean views, of course...I like the Rainbow tower.
