“Rainbow Tower, 23rd Floor, Sea View WONDERFUL !.....but busy resort too”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013 via mobile

NY at the sea, is how people we met from Phoenix one eve on the beach described it........... quite accurate description ? See below......

BIG resort, oh my word, massive. Like 5 (4?) hotels on one beachfront property. The Rainbow Tower (where we stayed) is most seafront I'd say, where everything happens day and night......

LOCATION is good, with beach, pools, parks close by. Note however: this is city life location - busy, music from seafront restaurants until around 11pm and noise from people fooling around on the beach till late. Traffic in the area city like. People everywhere in numbers. Difficult to find pool chairs at busy times. Coming from Maui (Kanaapali Beach area) the previous week (which in itself we considered busy), this was an animal of a different kind !

CHECK IN very busy at lobby, formed a Q at 2:30 pm odd..... took quite some time to check in, sorry to say.

FIRE WORKS every Friday right in front of Rainbow Tower around 7:45 pm (?) ! Not for the faint hearted inhabitants of the Rainbow Tower but very nice ! :)

LUAU just before fire works on Fridays at Rainbow Tower Pool..... visible from Rainbow Tower on oceanside.

RESTAURANTS: lots with Asian foods, very busy. One day, during our 4 night stay, we walked from one to another, trying get a spot but in vain (note: its like this all around the area of Waikiki and we did NOT make a reservation). In my opinion there could be more restaurants around.

LUGGAGE delivery was a bit slow, made one call an it got delivered. Baggage collection was good !

SERVICE was good when we needed something. However, on day 3 we discovered 4/5 pieces of clothing (of which 2/3 were underpants of a gent!) of previous visitors under the sleeping couch whilst looking for our childrens' toys...... yuk.

SNORKELING yes, right in front of hotel. Not so many fish though and due to busy beach, the wind and sea activities in the area a bit mercy. Go to the Waikiki aquarium if you have children to see the full spectrum, we did :)

RAINBOW TOWER SEA VIEW ROOM: now, no matter what I state here, our room made the 4 stars I awarded this hotel, otherwise it may have been a 3. We were upgraded: 23rd floor full ocean view - MILLION DOLLAR VIEW !

ROOM was nicely appointed, modern and modern bathroom with ample space.

WILL WE RETURN ? This area was a nice first experience, but too busy for us..... so I don't think so.

Aloha IslandVisit0r,

Mahalo for choosing the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We thank you for your time to write a feedback of your recent stay. We are glad to learn that our guest enjoyed their stay at the Rainbow Tower. The Rainbow Tower is a beachfront tower and offers a phenomenal view of the harbor and the ocean. The Hilton Hawaiian Village check in time is 2 pm, and it is the busiest time in the lobby. Please accept our sincere apology for inadequate cleaning service. Your experience will be shared with our teams as we are always striving to improve and provide the best customer service to our guests. We hope you return to the Hilton Hawaiian Village and we look forward to serving you again in the future.

We stayed for a week at the Hilton in the Rainbow tower (closest to the water). The resort is large with a lot of variety of restaurants and shops. We paid for an oceanview room in the rainbow tower. To us, that meant you could actually see the ocean- the words "ocean" and "view" suggest that. However, not according to the Hilton. If you could stand on the corner of your balcony and look around the corner- you had an ocean view. In my opinion, this is a scam to get people to pay more money. Ocean view to the Hilton means looking at the city and the lagoon (on the one side of the tower). In the rooms on the opposite side of the hall you face the beach and Diamond Head. You can see the ocean from the balcony. These according to the Hilton are the ocean front rooms (more money). We did pay the extra money as this was a one time trip to Honolulu and we wanted to see the ocean. I am very disappointed though that our room type wasn't as it was supposed to be.

Restaurants are varied and all are very expensive. A hot dog in a take out outlook cost $9.00. All the shops are high end and so are the prices. I suggest to go out of the resort to eat and shop. You'll save yourself a lot of money. There is an ABC store on the property and it's always busy. You can save some money buying snacks and souvenirs there. If you are to eat at the resort, the Tropics restaurant that is on the beach has the nicest atmosphere and is a wonderful place to be at sunset. They also have live music- which is a bit loud for the restaurant but nice for the bar.

The beach is stunning. It was well groomed every night. The water gorgeous but some areas can be quite rocky getting in. Water shoes are a good idea. No rocks in the lagoon though. There isn't a lot of shade on the beach and if you want an umbrella be prepared to spend $30/day for it. Beach chairs are $15/day/person. Apparently an independent vendor rents these out although they are located on the Hilton property. Visit the ABC store and get an air mattress for $3.00 and lie on that.

The room we had was spacious and the air conditioning worked great. The housekeeping did a reasonable job although they could have dusted prior to us arriving and also cleaned the mirror occassionally during our stay. Towels are soft; bed is on the harder side but comfy and the balcony has an appropriate amount of space to sit on. The carpet definately could use replacing as it had stains on it and looked very worn. We had elephants staying in the room above us. They ran back and forth and in and out of their balcony all evening. We also had loud mouthed guests in the room next to us. We could hear every word, cough and hiccup. The rooms have literally no sound proofing. However, during the night we didn't hear any noise.

The staff at the resort were friendly. They will print your boarding pass for you- at no cost- a real shocker! Every time you talk to a staff they try to get you to go to a timeshare presentation. However, a polite no thanks stopped further discussion about it.

The hotel isn't really close to much. However, a short walk will get you to other restaurants and shops. A bus stop and trolley is on the road outside the Tapa tower. This is also the area for most of the tours to pick you up and drop you off.

Overall we had a very good stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The service was great, and the people very friendly. The weather damped our stay for two days, therefore we had a very good stay instead of an excellent stay. The village in the resort was great. It was nice to walk around there. The resort is walking distance from a nice shopping center, and restaurants. The ocean, beach was great... Nice walk back and forth, day, night or evening. Take advantage on the tours available.

Returning for the 4th time to Honolulu after a 25 year absence and by far my stay in the Kalia Tower at the Hilton Hawiian Village has been a standout. Two double beds with ocean views on the 11th Floor. Fabulous professional conceirge service by J.R. who left us with his card to get in contact with him in case we needed anything during our 5 day stay. Pool and spa on 4th floor which was uncrowded, Starbucks had great coffee and a delicious breakfast. We shopped for 1.5 days at Ala Moana and Wakele, took the Hummer Kos Tour of Kualoa Ranch and surrounding sights but always returning to enjoy the Village atmosphere at the end of the day. There is so much to do and see at the Village that you don't even need to leave. Despite negative reports, the Luau was very enjoyablewith delicious food and entertainment. A much preferable stay to the hotels in Waikiki.

Room Tip: If you want to be closer to the beach choose accommodation at Alií or Rainbow Tower. Kalia and Tapa...

My husband recently stayed here in Feb 2013 for 4 nights of our honeymoon. After researching many of the hundreds of hotels on Waikiki beach, one of the important things we were looking for was a spactacular view of the beach and Diamondhead. We definately got this when we stayed here. I reserved a king room in the Rainbow Tower and requested a room on the 6th floor or above because i heard those were the best and made sure it was a diamondhead room too. When we checked in they didn't have a king room available so they put us in a room with two doubles but the view was perfect! We were on the 19th fl and at the end closest to the ocean. Although we didn't get he exact room we requested, we actually got a better room in terms of view.
This is a great spot for honeymooners if you enjoy the city life. You are walking distance to all the restaurants and shops on Waikiki so you don't have to spend a lot of money at the overpriced shops and restaurants at the resort . We did the breakfast buffet one morning and it was good but I don't know if it was $25 pp good. There are a lot of other good places for breakfast if you are willing to walk a little ways into town. Yes they do have a resort fee but it includes internet and other stuff so it was worth it.
A lot of people complained about this resort being too busy but there was plenty of space on the beach and I didn't feel like it was overcrowded. The only place it felt overcrowded was the check-in area and valet area because it seemed like no matter what time of day we passed through there people were checking-in or checking out. We didn't use the fitness room, spa, or room service so I can't comment on them.
We were a little annoyed when we went to talk to the concierge she offered us free tickets to their $100 pp luau and then said we would have to attend a two hour seminar the next day. I smelled a pitch for a time share a mile away. We declined and she tried to tell us it was a good deal but we didn't want to waste two hours of our vacation sitting listening to something we weren't interested to get tickets to a luau that we heard wasn't that great. If you are looking for a luau, go to the Polynesian cultural center's luau...a much better deal.

Room Tip: Rainbow tower, 6th fl or above, facing diamondhead, as close to the ocean as possible

Honeymoon in Hawaii, need I say more! I called the resort when booking and told them we were on our honeymoon and they upgraded us to the nicest tower and ocean front for te standard price. It was gorgeous! The beach was beautiful, but Waikiki as a whole was too busy. We plan on stating on the North Shore in the future.

We stayed in the Rainbow Tower shortly after Christmas. The room was ocean-view but on the back corner of the building across from the Luau and the Lagoon. Hilton has been in Hawaii since the 60s so you can appreciate that it really is a "village" around the hotel. There is a massive shopping centre 5 minutes away. The prices were higher than a typical suburban mall on the mainland US.

Hints:
* If you want to get free luau tickets you can attend a 1.5 hour presentation on the Hilton Grand Vacations.
* You need to plan roughly $75 extra per day on your stay for things like resort fees and little incidentals that come up.
* We really recommend the Italian Sausage pizza and garlic sticks w/ ranch combo at the Round Top Pizza Bar across the road from the Rainbow Tower. We were obsessed with this place and ended up eating the same thing for three nights over the course of our stay.
* We booked a day-trip flight to Kauai and a coach tour. This cost $400 per person but it was a great way to see the island in a day.
* Pearl Harbor and the USS Missouri is a must-see. Watch "Tora Tora Tora" first to get the right context. We would give the Dole Plantation a miss.
* You can drive over to the north side of the island and see film locations for Lost and Jurassic Park. We also parked the car and watched some of the surfing.

Room Tip: A lot of people say that the Rainbow Tower is the best - but the Aa'lia tower is more central.
