“Great resort in a fabulous Waikiki location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2013

We stayed for two weeks in a Hilton Grand Vacations 2 bedroom condo in the Lagoon Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. This was the perfect option for our family of 5. The apartment was gorgeous - with a view of the ocean. It was extremely spacious with 1 king bed, 2 queens (in the second bedroom) and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. The kitchen was fully equipped and there was a share laundry at the end of the hall.
The apartment was very quiet apart from the luau each night - which ended before we went to bed so that was OK. HGVC facilities and privileges were available to us even though we are not owners.
The resort is so convenient to everything. It is a 5-10 minute walk to Ala Moana (depending on your pace), there are bus stops outside (about a 5 minute walk through the resort for buses going to Ala Moana and a 3 minute walk from the Grand Waikikian lobby for buses going to Waikiki, Diamond Head).
It is about 10-15 minutes to walk to the heart of Waikiki. It's a nice walk though - along the beach front and through the park to get to Lewers St.
There are several supermarkets nearby if you want supplies - two in Waikiki (one an easy walk, one a bus trip), and one at Ala Moana. There are small convenience stores at the resort for everyday supplies - including one in our lobby.
The resort is far enough from Waikiki that you don't feel overcrowded and it is much quieter than any of the other hotels we have stayed at in Waikiki.
The staff are very helpful and the service is great. I had some issues with unauthorised transactions on my credit card and the hotel duty manager was extremely helpful in sorting it out for me.
The resort restaurants are fabulous - with healthy choices and usually not too long a wait for a table.
The only negative was that the pools are very crowded. It was OK for our 4 year old but our teenagers were not interested.
We would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Lagoon Tower in HGVC

This property feels a lot like Vegas... spread out and jam packed with ways to spend money while walking from your room to the beach. Lots of 'attractions' and photo ops like penguins and waterfalls to distract travel neophytes. It has a great location right on Waikiki beach and is walking distance to the downtown shopping area, but rooms are average and things feel run down. Stained carpets, threadbare beach towels and so forth. Housekeeping only made it to our room once during a 3-night stay and then it was only a cursory visit after 5PM... no vacuum, no new sheets or toiletries. Restaurant food is unimaginative and priced as expected ($$$), better bet is to eat off property or buy snacks in the ABC stores that are everywhere. Resort fee includes a DVD rental card. Our first rental went fine, but the player in our room didn't function properly and we were blocked from renting a second movie. Without the snafus, it's a nice bonus. Definitely a destination for Asian tourists, arriving by the busload!!

Room Tip: Rainbow and A'ali towers are closest to the beach. Tapa tower offers only side views of the ocea...

If you are planning to stay here, try to book an oceanview room in the Ali'i Tower if you want the most modern and renovated rooms. High floors in the Rainbow Tower give you a nice view of Diamond Head if the room is high enough and at least oceanview on the Diamond Head side. Ali'i was just renovated in the Fall and I prefer new and up to date. I had a lovely clean oceanview room on the 9th floor, with a tiny corner view of Diamond Head, but gorgeous view of the ocean. Ali'i only has 15 floors. My son loved the Ali'i pool (no pool cards were required). I only wish they served food there. HHV is a large property but that did not bother me at all because we were staying in Ali'i which is like a little boutique hotel within the larger mega resort. The only thing is the male concierge in the lobby of the Ali'i was not helpful at all. He didn't seem to know anything. If I was staying in another tower I am sure that the size of HHV would bother me. But if money is no option then the Halekuani is equisite. We stayed at the HHV because it was one of the hotels affiliated with my husbands conference.

Room Tip: Rooms 01 to 05 are ocean front in Ali'i.

Room in Tapa has limited view and would recommend rainbow or Ali for view. Not a relaxing atmosphere but convenient for conference. Hotel lobby a bit hectic and not best first impression but lots of pools, shops, water sports so one could see why a family might like the one stop resort.
So if you want a busy resort this is a good choice.

Room Tip: Rainbow or Ali for views. ABC store on site so great for buying everything.

I will go to Mexico from now on. Service and friendliness is just not Hilton Wiakiki or Hilton Wiakola's thing. They only are nice or responsive when they bring the check. I have tried several times to vacation at these destinations and I would rather pay more and get better service, but at the prices they charge you would think you would get a friendly attitude. Sorry Hilton no more vacations for me here.

I just arrived home form 8 days in Ohau, staying at the Hawaiian Village. The Ali'i Tower made the ttrip very relaxing. We had an ocean front room which was large and well appointed. The housekeeping was excellent and the provided toiletries were wonderful. I wish I knew where to buy them because they were labeled just for the Ali'i. I especially enjoyed the 2nd floor pool deck, as the chaises were well cushioned and the umbrellas were plentiful, when you prefered shade. The towels were luxurious and plenttiful, no towel card required. The patio bar area was a pleasant place to sit for the fireworks and to listen to the music of the Friday night show. My only complaint was the $25.00 resort fee. I believe such fees should either be optional or included in the initial price. The Village was a pleasant area to walk and window shop, it was never crowed but still vibrant. If you have to stay in Honolulu I believe that this is the place to stay. I was vacationing, my companion was on business. As Hilton Gold members we were given a continental breakfast each morning which was extremely good with cereal, wonderful muffins, bowls of fresh fruit, juice toast bagels, etc. Serve yourself, but very good clean up serice and pleasant employees.

Room Tip: Others in our group were located in different towers and they all commented that the Ali'i Tower...

We were put up in the hotel by our airline, due to a problem with our plane. We ended up getting three free nights in the hotel and free meals for the whole stay (not a bad deal) United Mileage Plus Premier is worth the extra dough. The hotel and the area are just stunning, we had a great time. Every single person we talked to that worked there just seemed as though they didn't want us to be there and that we were inconveniencing them by our presence.
