“Great again some disappointments”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

Returned to the Hilton this year peak time July so understandably busy however our rooms were only average and Tapa tower renovations were a pain at times however you don't spend much time in the rooms.
Expensive this year as Ali Tower just does not compare to Lagoon tower. Pay for Internet, pay for movies, needed 2 rooms as we have 3 boys so lodging this year was average and being or 2nd visit hoped for more...
Disappointed this year they charged even for resort chairs none even free on the grassed area seemed too excessive for me... But love the resort and all it has to offer and the customer service (tours and attraction crew) won us over with things to do and organise. They talked me into the return to paradise offer and I'm glad they did as we will be returning next year. Position and feel of the resort is the best. Yes it is not for the heavily budgeted but you can spend a lot anywhere and we have done the budget hotels and with 3 boys they just don't compare. By far the best resort and we have tried a few....
Must do the Weimea rock jump the boys loved it.
Drove around the island the north shore and did the shrimp trucks an absolute must.
Love the choose of restaurants in the resort from pizza to 4 star...
Finally back in the Lagoon tower so See you next year.

The Hilton representative on the phone told us this place was a 4-diamond rating. She said this was equal to five stars but was unable to explain why the place had missed out on a diamond. Odd.
This is definitly not a 5-star property. It's a 4 at best, probably a three.
That said, maybe we would stay there again.
We stayed in two buildings the Tapa Tower and the Kalia Tower over 6 nights. They were both a bit dated and lacking in style. Basic rooms but WITH a Sony playstation.
In Kalia we had adjoining (two double beds in each) rooms with a connecting door. We were told in the phone we could only have connectig doors between and king and a double room.
This hotel DOES NOT have room service. You can place a phone order with a little shop and go and collect your meal in plastic bags and plastic trays with plastic knives and forks. THEY DO NOT deliver lunch or breakfast. They will deliver dinner.
This hotel does not have inroom movies. You pay $15 for a card (from Nov 1) and you go to the lobby and get a disc from a vending machine. Too bad if your favourite movie is out and too bad if the disc is scratched and you only find out 70 minutes into the movie. Who thought up this stupid idea?
But - on the plus side - the tv had 60-odd stations and you can take your own movies and games for the Playstation. And the $15 lets you hire as many movies as you like for $15 a day - one at a time. So, it's kind of hard to criticise.
The hotel advertises its pools and slides as being huge. They are fairly small (but much bigger than those at all the other hotels) and not so new. The slides are dated and the pools lacklustre.
The breakfast. It is outdoors. And it is the poorest breakfast I have ever had in a 5-star hotel. It's a 3-star breakfast.
But the staff are great. The location close to the beach is great.
The Hyatt is closer to the shops but the main street shops like Macy's are not as big as the shops in the Ala Mona (spelling) Mall. So if you are looking for the biggest choice of cheap, name brand clothes you will still need to get a taxi to the Ala Moana Mall even if you are staying in the Hyatt or other main st hotels.
I am really conflicted about this place. If you are used to 3 or 4-star hotels then you will love it. If you are used to top class 5-star hotels then you will appreciate the location but will grit your teeth at the lack of amenities. No slippers in the room. Combined bath and shower. Low flow shower heads. Dated fittings. No room service.
The beach at the Hilton was also also quieter near the Hilton than up near the Hyatt (the place I think I wish I had stayed).
And finally, the penguins. The Hilton had its own little colony of penguins. You can even pat them. This was a big plus for our children but anyone can sneak in and see them. The 3-year-old got to pat one and that is pretty priceless.
But what's the story with the tipping. We ended up being a party of 6 on this trip and they automatically added a 17 or 18 per cent gratuity fee to our bills wherever we went. It's a bit offensive that restaurants can decide that we must tip 17 per cent but that for everyone else the tip is optional. Surely a big table is easier to serve than 3 tables of 2.
So, I don't know if I would stay here again. Probably not. I would go for the Hyatt. Trump can go and jump ... him and his tower are not going to see any of my money thanks to his support of Mitt (look after the wealthy and stuff the poor people) Romney.

Room Tip: Work out which building you want and make the hotel agree to it when u book or they will shove u up...

Aloha cbz_9,

Mahalo for choosing the Hilton Hawaiian Village! As Hawaii’s leading resorting destination, we are sorry to hear that our service and offerings fell short of your expectations. Our newly introduced Fresh Connection concept has taken the place of traditional room service as of October 1st, 2012. Fresh Connection emphasizes fresh, fast, and convenience for our guests who have the option of room delivery (breakfast and dinner service), phone-in order and window pick-up, or simply stopping in to grab and go. As common in many restaurant establishments and printed on our restaurant menus, a set gratuity percentage is included for parties of 6 or more. The new PS3 systems placed in all guests rooms are supported by the newly introduced resort charge of $25 per day that includes unlimited movies and games among the many additional benefits included. Our website provides further details of the resort charge benefits. We appreciate your understanding and patience during our current rejuvenation project. We are highly anticipating the completion of our Tapa Pool renovation that is sure to bring additional pool space and amenities. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you will allow HHV the opportunity to serve you again.

We checked in 27th October, we arrived at 7am from a jetstar flight from Australia, we had no sleep on the plane due to our 3 year just not sleeping so we were so over the moon that when we checked in to the Hilton at 8am our room was ready and they allowed us to check in early, we were so happy with the room, we had a suite in the Tapa's Tower with ocean front views it was truly lovely, we were on the 13th floor, room 1329 it was high enough to not be effected by the renovations we barely heard a thing, we are excited to come back next year and see how the tapa's pool turns out, this was our second trip to Hawaii and second stay at the Hilton 1st time we were in diamond head tower which was ok but nothing like the tapa's tower highly recommend Tapa's tower suites! We plan to come yearly and would never stay anywhere else but Hilton Hawaiian village. It's true you don't have to leave the village we ate at pronto pickles and tropics bar nearly every day we didn't find it any more expensive than eating out even at home the prices are the same but the view amazing from the tropics bar! I got up early to run most mornings around the lagoon area what a joy, we would go shopping in the mornings to Ala moana everything was within walking distance or you could catch a cab for $7 US which we did mostly because of our 3 year old, we would swim in the afternoon and never had trouble finding.a lounge chair, the pools were not over crowded it was just family's enjoying there day this hotel is very suited to family's so I highly recommend this place! The staff are very helpful and willing to help we had issues with the hot water and had a staff member on our door within minutes to fix the issues, the wifi in our room was really good we had great signal the whole time yes it was expensive but it's a must when you want to stay connected to home and have young kids that love YouTube.

Thank you Hilton for a great room, and a great experience we will see you next year. :-)

The property is beautiful very well kept. Balcony view of their pool / lagoon and also the beach was wonderful. This was a time share exchange. Room was a mini suite with frige, stove, D/W, microwave, pots, pans coffee maker, toaster, etc.. Room was spacious, clean and quiet. One bath room was a bit of a chore for three adults getting ready simultaenously. Beds were comfortable. We arrived 10-27-12 and at 8:30 pm during dinner we heard a siren. Bottom line - there was an underwater earthquake off the coast of Brisish Columbia and the siren was a tsumani warning. Everyone on the first four floors were evacuated to higher ground, ie, the upperdecks of the parking garage. Luckly we were on the 15th floor. The tsumani was predicted to hit Oahu at 10:28 pm. We waited until 10:45, saw nothing and went to bed. It was all a very exciting false alarm. City officials and hotel staff take these warnings very seriously. Luau entertainment was very good but venue was on top floor of parking deck, however, this gave great views of the sunset. Luau food was OK, not great. Two umbrellas and three chairs for beach cost approx $85 per day. Beach sand was course and in ocean was quite gritty with sharp pieces of coral. All beaches are public which means no alcohol. Bummer, I prefer Cancun beaches.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view. For us this was the southeast side of our tower.

This is a massive property that includes five towers, some time-share, has many restaurants and a mini-mall. They also film Hawaii 5-0 here which for us was a lot of fun to watch! It took about four hours to film what turned out to be a three minute restaurant scene on TV.

Has great pools, and is oceanfront as well!

We have stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian village three times and each time we love it even more. We stay via our timeshare and are always in the lagoon tower, which has amazing views of Diamond Head and the ocean, depending on your room. For this tower, as in any other, the higher floor, the better the view.

The whole Village property is impeccably maintained, right on beautiful Waikiki Beach, and includes several pools, stores, restaurants, bars, a salon, spa, and fitness center. And, of course, the fireworks each Friday are let off right in front of the Rainbow Tower on the property. Don't miss the fireworks for Aloha Fridays!

This property is quite popular, so don't expect a quiet retreat, but if you want a great location and close amenities, this is a wonderful spot. And, you're about a 15 minute walk from the Ala Moana shopping center. Also, for car rentals, go across the street to the Discovery Bay Mall and rent there. This small mall houses National, Alamo, Enterprise and a couple others. The car rentals are cheaper and the mall is only a 5 minute walk from the property.

Room Tip: Ocean view and ocean front rooms are plentiful. Higher floors will be quieter, and higher floors on...

My room was large attractive, and very comfortable. The facility was up to date and seemed to have something for everyone--beach access, swimming pool, various restaurants and coffee shops, wedding chapel, countless shops. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

There was also much to dislike about the Village. However, there was always construction going on, seemingly everywhere. In the evening, there was music more or less in the center of the facility. and that really bothered me. Whenever I was in my room, I wore my earplugs because i found the bass quite annoying. Maybe that's just me, but that bothered me more than anything else.

There are various places to eat, but most of them are expensive. A continental breakfast with tip for $24. It was a convenient place to eat, and if one ate there every day (which I didn't do), it would really add up. Even the little fast food place near the Tropics restaurant was expensive--$10.50 for a pre-made lukewarm burger. In the Tropics, a bowl of Portuguese bean soup was $16. It wasn't especially easy to find one's way out and back in the complex, so at times it was just simpler to eat somewhere on the property, but I often found my way out to go to the IHOP, which wasn't far away. I ate breakfast at Denny's--half a mile away--a couple of times, and once I went to the Cheesecake factory and had Salisbury steak, which I enjoyed, though there was about twice as much food as I could eat.

I did eat at the Benihana, which i enjoyed, and several times my friends and I ate at Round Table pizza. However...pizza three times in a week is pretty much my limit.

This was my third time staying at this Hilton, which was probably one reason I found fault with it. I don't recall being displeased with it the first two times I stayed here.
