“Pleasant and convenient but noisy.”
Reviewed November 16, 2013

The hotel's location was generally well situated and the rooms clean and pleasant. However, the rooms were pretty noisy because of traffic and some of our party had a difficult time sleeping. Overall a nice hotel, but the noise factor should be considered, particularly if you are a light sleeper.

Micah80ann,

Aloha and mahalo for taking the time to review your stay, We do apologize for any inconvenience that the traffic noise may have caused you. Unfortunately, Waikiki is a large city and there is a good bit of traffic. We do our best to mitigate this with silent AC systems and offering higher floors in the back to those who do not sleep well.

On the upside, we are out of the central hustle and bustle of Waikiki, so it is much quieter than many hotels in the central Waikiki area. Although this does not resolve any guests with sleeping issues, we do advise guests to contact us directly to make any special requests so we can do our best to accommodate them. We truly appreciate you sharing your concerns with us, and allowing us to provide a response to such concerns. We look forward to hosting you again in the future.

Mahalo,

Mariah Dailey

This hotel is in the perfect location - a block from the water and walking distance from Ala Moana and tons of restaurants, etc. Very nice rooms, clean, parking is easy and an excellent value. But the best part is the friendly staff. They really make you feel like part of the ohana, which makes the trip so much more enjoyable. This is the only place I will stay in Waikiki! Highly recommend.

This boutique hotel has exquisite decor and style, extremely comfortable beds, and has one of the best locations for shopping and browsing Waikiki. It's on the up-and-coming end of Waikiki which is just another benefit to stay at! But even more than the comfort and location, the staff is amazing! They're all helpful, friendly and professional, but treat you like family! All of the staff gave great advice on places to visit and to make sure to see! I don't get the chance to stay in hotels very often, but I would highly recommend The Equus Hotel as it is not only unique but you'll feel right at home!

This hotel styles itself as a boutique hotel with a bamboo-polynesian theme, plus horses. It felt a tad strange to me, but that was minor. The location is excellent, one block away from the water, a few blocks over to the main Waikiki beach. Figure a ten minute walk. Parking was a worry but the clerk said they don't sell (it's an extra daily fee, like all hotels in the area) more slots than they have (I counted 13). But it's really only suitable for small cars. There also is a public garage across the street.

The room had two chests of drawers, 3 drawers each, plus smaller drawers in the night tables, and a closet. I found the bed very soft, but I find that at most hotels. There are plenty of restaurants and stores nearby - you have the whole Waikiki hotel/tourist district. Because of the orientation of the rooms you do get noise from Ala Moana Blvd, but that seemed to drop off about midnight.

Pros: in-room coffee maker (a Keurig!!), in room safe (with a key, not electronic though), and good service when I needed more hangers. There is a small outdoor terrace. Refrigerator in the room without mini-bar (I hate those). Good shower with pressure and hot water, and plush soft towels.

Cons: the icemaker is down in the lobby, the chairs were not very comfortable, and the table was a bamboo style so the rounded pieces are not a good writing surface. The lighting wasn't very good, especially for reading. And some small things that show lack of attention to detail - drawers that didn't close properly and in all the days there the cleaning person never replaced (or moved or cleaned) my water glasses - that seemed strange I've never had that happen anywhere else.
But overall I had a good stay, and the location is excellent. I would stay there again if the price was good.

My husband & I stayed here for three days & we enjoyed the comforts of our room, Beautiful decor, (pillow top beds), great location for shopping at Ala Moana which is a walking distance away, & nearby restaurants for dining. What we appreciated the MOST was the friendly & very helpful staff who treated us like family with the "Aloha Spirit" that Hawaii is famous for!!! The front desk Manager Rene was very helpful & knowledgeable in recommending places to see, visit & dine. We highly recommend The Equus Hotel for our memorable stay & it's "Aloha Spirit!"
