Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel

BEWARE of review writers! Take negative comments with a pinch of salt. We got spooked by some of the comments on this hotel. This is NOT the 4 Seasons, It is a lovely hotel with super friendly staff at a decent price. If you want to be pandered, pay an extra $100 a night.

Check in smooth. Rooms and decor nice. Missing a coffee maker, but starbucks is right there. Location on beach is great. Beach is protected from waves right in front, or open just to the left. The hotel elevators are programmed for speedy delivery to your floor - it works, but needs a long lesson and practice to figure it out.

Parking valets are wonderful, but the $27/night plus tax is too much. I spent more on parking than the car rental!!!! This was the single biggest disappointment.

I read a few comments about the 'free' breakfast. If you stay at the budget suite hotels you will be happy. We were. OK selection of pastries, cereal, fruit, and bread with juices, milk and tea/coffee. Omelette and waffle for a price. Wonderful little bag to take for breakfast oin the beach, but very few actually did. We enjoyed it. Drawback is that because it is by the pool it closes promptly at 0830. The pool opens at 0930.

I also read a comment about the noisy bar band!! Everyone - please note bars are noisy. Seaside resorts tend to have a lot! It will be a lot quiter in land with no sea view!!

DO SNORKEL off the beach (rent from snorkel Bob a few blocks away for the week).. We went to the famous Hanauma Bay, and saw just as many fish right off the beach at the hotel.

PS we realized too late - enjoy hawaii's weather open the balcony door. The a/c automatically turns off.

We stayed there for our 21st anniversary which our travel agents informed the hotel of ahead of our stay requesting an upgrade and something special for us. We were not offered an upgrade, the something special was 2 pieces of locally made cake! Room was ok although could be updated particularly the bathroom. Breakfast by the pool was a free for all although included in price we didnt bother after the first day and went for breakfast elsewhere. Beware of the sound of the wind howling through gaps around the doors and windows especially in the rooms higher up! An average hotel, spend a little more and stay at one of the better hotels there are plenty to choose from! Parking was expensive paid daily or weekly at this hotel.Best thing was comfy beds and friendly atmosphere probably best for young couples and families. Great location though!

The room looked just as it was presented on the website. We had a partial ocean view and it was beautiful. Right across the street from the beach and about five blocks down from the International Marketplace. Had a great breakfast every morning.

NO ROOM SERVICE - no menus, no hours of operation, only a phone line to the restaurants. The location was great but the hotel is tired and in need of a face lift. The rooms are borderline low-rent motel quality but the bed was comfortable. And to top it all off we traveled with friends, who for a few pennies more, were staying at a gorgeous resort hotel. Grrrrrr. Was really wishing we had booked at the Marriott with them.

To be fair the Tiki Bar was great but be sure to hit it only at happy hour (AVOID dinner, the prices are astronomical). If that hotel had been, say, in the middle of Seattle I wouldn't have spent 2 seconds there but the location somewhat made up for my disappointment in the environment.

The location, beach and the view was great. We were on the 17th floor. The hotel was the main bus pick up for tours, trolley and thebus. Beach is right across the street.

This hotel has a good location, clean rooms and good service, The standard room was tiny and had a lanai that held one chair.

The elevator was another story, You used your room key to activate it but it was so slow and we were escorted to the service elevator several times to speed things up. You also can not go from you room to street level, You have to get off at 3 and either go down the escalator or get on another elevator. Very frustrating especially when you have luggage,

After arriving in Hawaii late evening after a very very long Journey from London we entered the Hotel and took the escalators up to the Reception area. The Hotel was superbly decorated and the Reception staff very friendly.

The next morning we went down to breakfast, the food was buffet style and we had been given a bag to put our food in "Breakfast on the beach" brilliant idea and whilst eating around by the pool there were Hawaiin dancers and music.

The Hotel offered food during lunch and dinner but as we were on a bed and breakfast basis it worked out quite expensive so we ventured out to different Restaurants in the area which were superb.

The Hotel was right opposite the beach with a road seperating it and the beach itself. There were excellent views and I liked the fact that the positioning of the Hotel was on the quieter stretch of beach and near Diamond Head and the park.

The rooms were always cleaned and very comfortable. We had 2 double beds, a fridge and flat screen TV. We also had a small balcony with a partial sea view which was unexpected.

The Hotel had a small pool which always had entertainment around it but we didn't use it! there was so much to do during our stay on such a small island!

We were pleasantly suprised with the Hotel itself and would definately go back!!
