“Great location, comfy beds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

Friends and I stayed at the Aston for 4 nights at the start of our 2-week Hawaii trip. The location was great for walking to the beach and any of the many restaurants and shops, plus landmark hotels like the Moana Surfrider and the Royal Hawaiian where we went for high tea and cocktails, respectively. The hotel elevators were a bit confusing--you need your room key to call one--but also quicker since the system appeared to be designed to take you straight to your floor. I was most impressed with the beds--very comfortable, no back pain in the morning, which is often an issue for me--and with the number of outlets--there was a strip along the right side of the dresser, which was great for 2 people in the same room with several electronic devices to charge. One complaint: total lack of hot water in the shower the first morning we were there, about 7 am local time.

Right next to a beautiful park and across the street from Wakiki Beach. Kalakaua Blvd reminded me of Las Vegas BLVD Lots of shopping and People. Great places to eat as well.
The free breakfast isn't bad. Take your little cooler to prove you are a guest. The rooms aren't bad. The staff is helpful. We got alot of good advice from the tour adviser in the hotel. Wolfgang Pucks cafe downstairs is really good. On sunday morning of our stay, they closed the Blvd. in front of our hotel to do some filming of Hawaii 50. That was fun to watch. You might want to check and see if they'll be doing any filming while you're there. I guess it happens quite frequently.
Tip: Take advantage of the your internal clock. Ours was 5 hours ahead so it was no problem getting our of bed and on our way somewhere at 7:00 in the morning. Now coming home was a different story. SOOO TIRED.

Room Tip: Our room had a view of Diamond Head. I really don't think there is a bad view.

Aloha Lynn, and thank you for sharing your review of our hotel. Yes, Hawaii 5-0 films in Waikiki often, and has even filmed in our rooms before! Their season premier has been located on the beach in front of our hotel where the first episodes of the season were played on the big screen projector- a complimentary event for all to enjoy. It seems like you had a fantastic vacation, and it is good to hear that you were able to get up early to enjoy the mornings. I always thought that Waikiki was most beautiful right after the sun rises when the ocean-air is still cool. Mahalo for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to post your review. We hope to see you again in the future. Sincerely, Rebecca; Guest Services Coordinator

My wife and I stayed at the Waikiki Beach Hotel for one night on our way back to Sydney from NYC in January 2014.

We drove our rental car from the airport and used the hotel's valet parking. From memory it was about $25 for the night. On previous trips we had sometimes used the Roberts shuttle. but we learned that it would take ages if you were staying at a property towards the end of Waikiki (as opposed to HHV or Ilikai where it would probably be a good option).

We had booked an Ocean View room with balcony and it was very nice. The property was a little older, like many in Waikiki, but everything was good in our room, We had a balcony with a great view over Waikiki. The room also had one of those Keurig coffee machines that are popular in the US - they make a decent coffee or hot chocolate from the 'pods' the hotel provides.

We had never stayed at Waikiki Beach Hotel before, but had been to Tikis Bar and Grill several times on previous trips to Hawaii. Tikis has great service and a nice atmosphere. We have enjoyed Mai-Tais and Lava Flows on their terrace bar and had hoped to do the same on this trip. Unfortunately we had picked up some kind of bug in New York and were too sick to enjoy Tikis on this trip.

The hotel provides a breakfast that you can eat by the pool or take over to the beach in a cooler bag the hotel provides. We enjoyed the breakfast by the pool, which had plenty of decent choices.

We would definitely stay here again, There are ABC stores across the road which sell beer and wine and practically everything else you might need.. If you are heading to the airport the next day, being at the end of Waikiki means that you just need to go one block to Kapahulu, turn left then head up to the H-1 freeway..

Aloha, and thank you for choosing to stay with us this time during your one night layover. We're sorry that you didn't have the chance to enjoy Tiki's Grill and Bar, this time. Their lava flows and mai tais are still in style as well as their live music and of course, the ocean views.

Taking a shuttle from the airport is an easy way to get to our hotel, as is picking up a rental car from the airport and driving. Our valet parking is $27 plus tax each night. And yes, our location at the east end of Waikiki is near the freeway. Because the shuttle drivers use Nimitz highway instead of the freeway, our guests are typically first to be picked up, and last to be dropped off by the shuttles going to and from the airport, Pearl Harbor, and the Aloha Stadium.

We hope to welcome you again in the future. Mahalo for sharing your review and we wish you safe travels. Mahalo, Rebecca; Guest Services Coordinator

We spent 3 nights at the Aston. We were on a budget and a little doubtful on what were booking but at the end of our stay we were very very pleased with everything.
The Hotel is one of the older ones but has had a makeover at some stage, a bit of paint and new furniture. Nice flat screen tv, a table and 2 stools plus a good sized cupboard and safe.
Bathroom was clean and adequate.
LOVED the King Sized bed! Sooooo comfy!!! Linen was clean and crisp.
We stayed on the 23rd floor and looked down Waikiki Beach. I think when your booking accommodation in Waikiki and your on a budget you have to decide whether an older place on the beachfront with views or a newer Hotel but a couple of blocks back with no views. We choose the views and glad we did. Spectacular!
Tikis bar on the ground floor was awesome, a really nice vibe all the time.
Breakfast served next to the pool was great. Plenty of choice and plenty of food. You can take the chilly bag from your room and fill it with food and then take it to the beach to eat. Liked it.
On the ground floor there are cafes and shops and around the corner a Starbucks.
On the 1st floor you can book tours and trips, really handy.
The Hotel is located right at the end of Waikiki but really wasn't a problem, plenty of shopping and food places around you.

For the money we paid we were more than happy with this Hotel!

Room Tip: We asked for a view of Waikiki instead of Diamond head, much nicer at night.

Aloha kiwiguy, and thank you for sharing your nice review! We always love to hear about memorable Hawaiian vacations and are glad to learn that you found value in our property. Our location is desirable because of our proximity to the beach, transportation, and great restaurants. Tiki's Grill and Bar is one of Waikiki’s most popular restaurants and we are proud to have them on property. Their live music, ocean front views, and one-of-a-kind food and drink menu make for a lively venue. We are also glad that you enjoyed our signature amenity, ‘Breakfast on the Beach’. The cooler bag found in the guest room is intended for taking breakfast to the beach, up to the room, or perfect for on the go day time activities. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to see you again in the future. Mahalo! Rebecca; Guest Services Coordinator

Excellent value. Spacious room, ocean view. Clean, quiet. Balcony is for views only, very tiny.
We needed an overnight accommodation which provided easy access to Waikiki Beach. We had just completed the Norwegian 7-day Hawaii cruise and wanted to visit Pearl Harbor before our return flight the next day. The Bell Desk arranged shuttle service to Pearl Harbor and the next morning to the airport. Both shuttles were prompt, courteous, and efficient for us. The Shuttle to Pearl Harbor was Round Trip and gave us flexibility for the return trip when the launch to the Arizona Memorial closed due to high afternoon winds. Disappointing, but we met our primary goal of catching the local shuttle bus over to the new Oklahoma Memorial, right beside the Missouri Battleship entrance. Our daughter-in-law's great uncle died on the Oklahoma during the attack, so this visit was crucial. (Get local shuttle bus ticket at the Arizona Visitor Center windows and catch the shuttle just a few yards/meters to the right).

The Bell Desk also has a reasonably secure luggage storage area next to the Bell Desk. Since we were very early arrivals for check-in, this was very important and appreciated.

On site restaurant provided a great meal. Noisy and very busy, as expected, but part of our overnight experience. The wait time was about 30 minutes, not bad for a busy Saturday evening. Chilly and breezy weather meant outside seating was less desirable, probably contributing to the wait time.

The complimentary breakfast at the pool on Sunday morning provided expected pastries, coffee/juices, cereals, and cut fruits (melons). Suggest getting to the buffet early, as the cut fruits were scarce by the time we arrived there. As advertised, you can take stuff over to the beach in the provided cooler bag. Just be sure to leave the bag when checking out or a fee will be charged.

Elevator system was efficient but a bit confusing at first. Specific elevators are for service between the arrival level (1) and the desk/pool/restaurant level (3). Escalators also nearby. For service to room floors, wave your room key by the call panel, enter your desired floor, and WATCH FOR YOUR ASSIGNED elevator. Once in the elevator there are NO buttons for floors.

Bottom line: This was an excellent choice and a great value for our vacation.

Aloha, and thank you for the lovely review and beautiful photos. It seems like you had an excellent time at our hotel and we are glad to have met your expectations. Pearl Harbor is the most popular tourist attraction in Hawaii and I'm glad you had the opportunity to visit. In addition to taking a shuttle, many of our guests opt to purchase a tour package with one of the activity desks located on property. The advantages are that in addition to pick up and drop off the package guarantees reservations for USS Arizona ferry transportation as well as the other historical sites. Mahalo for staying with us, and for traveling to Oahu! We hope to welcome you again in the future. Sincerely, Rebecca; Guest Services Coordinator

We found the rooms very small and the water pressure extremely low at certain times, however, we highly recommend this hotel due to the excellent location, right across the street from the beach and value pricing. There is lots of shops and eateries close by, Our room was on the 10th floor looking down on the pool, it was quite loud and the tour buses line up very early on the street below, but we were fine with that,as it was only a 2 night stay. The free breakfast is simple and the line up is long at times but we found it to be an added bonus, there was also addition food (omelettes..ect.) for purchase).

Room Tip: If you like quiet dont take an ocean view room, unless it is on a higher floor.

My husband and I have been to Hawaii 3 times, staying a few days at the Sheraton Waikiki then over to beautiful Maui. BUT I have to say, if you are going with children (from 2 to 21) they will WANTto be on WAIKIKI! We have just returned from 2 weeks in March 2014 at the Aston Waikiki Beach with our daughter and her boys (5 & 8). The Hotel was the BEST we could have hoped for. The Reception Desk was pleasant. The pool on the 3rd floor was beside Tiki’s Grill – the BEST casual restaurant on Waikiki where EVERYTHING was good, and it overlooks the ocean! The hotel offers FREE – DVD’S (NEW!), FREE Nintendo Games, a FREE full continental buffet breakfast, and FREE towels and beach chairs. They have a lunch snack bar for minimal cost with sandwiches and hotdogs. Below the hotel is a Subway, a Coldstone Creamery, and a Wolfgang Pucks Pizza Place! It is a great place to walk down Kalakaua Avenue and see the Duke and many other statues, beautiful plants and Banyan trees. An ABC convenience Store is on every corner and many shops and stores to see. The Hotel is across the street from the Honolulu Zoo, and is the main Trolley and Bus Stop for most transportation. The beach is beautiful at that end. For small children there is one side with a break wall where they can play in shallow water, and on the other side of the pier, there is more undertow and waves for older kids that want to try their surfing and snorkelling. We stayed in a “partial ocean view” for $145. A night, which gave us a room with doors that opened onto a 2 foot balcony. Not enough to sit on, but had the beautiful ocean breeze, great view, and could dry our bathing suits and shoes out! Our King Bed was SO comfortable, and our daughter’s adjoining room had 2 double beds and was great for her. There was plenty of dresser and closet space, and a mini fridge and hairdryer. TA people say there is a musty smell, we didn’t have it, just bring some Bounce Sheets and keep the AC on low! The hotel is PERFECT for families, good restaurants, great beach, and lots of activity!

Room Tip: "partial ocean view" has a small 2 foot balcony, but great view. If you want to SIT on th...
