“best hotel for value for money.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2014

I have been to Hawaii 4 times and stayed at the Sheraton and Moana Surfrider but found the Aston Waikiki Beach to be great value for money. the resort fees that you pay at all hotels do not always include breakfast and unlimited free dvd to watch in your room but this is included at the Aston. the rooms are clean and well maintained and the bed was very comfortable not to mention the view from my room was breathtaking. the staff were all very helpful and were happy to answer any questions that i had. the beach is easy to access directly across the road and is not that crowded. i will be recommending the Aston Waikiki Beach to all my friends and family in the future... Anna d...

Room Tip: higher floors have great views..

Stayed in a standard room with two full size bed. If they only spent $200 that would be an improvement. The bed sheets had holes, shower curtain and grout lines were dirty. There was also a leak in the shower. It currently looks like they hired a bum off the streets and let him fix the bathroom.

Breakfast is just ok for the daily amenity fee of $23.

Next time I will spend a little more to stay somewhere else.

Aloha, and thank you for sharing your honest review. The conditions you describe don't reflect our typical high standards; we were sorry to learn about the linens, and maintenance challenges. Your experiences have been shared with our housekeeping and maintenance departments for their immediate attention. Furthermore, in addition to our select amenity, 'Breakfast on the Beach', our daily amenity fee also includes unlimited DVD and movies via PlayStation3, use of in-room safe, local calls, and daily newspaper. Mahalo for choosing to stay with us. Sincerely, Rebecca; Guest Services Coordinator

With breakfast included this place was a bargin, even if we ate most breakfasts at the nearby Lulu's instead. The room was small but the location was walking distance to so much. I usually stay in a more secluded hotel in Oahu but this hotel worked out fine.

My family of 4 stayed at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel from January 11 to January 17. We arrived late at night and had no problem with check-in. We left early morning and had no problems with check-out

We booked through Travelocity and were aware of the amenity fee of 18$ before we booked. We did notice that the fee had increased after we booked but we were still honored the original fee price.

The hotel is located on the East end of Waikiki Beach, very close to the zoo(across the street) and also directly across the street from the lagoon (walled off) portion of the beach, which is much nicer for our small kids to swim. We did not rent a car for this trip. There are trolley and city bus stops right outside or within a block of the hotel that can take you everywhere. We prebooked a taxi to take us to and from the airport for a flat rate fee of 29 each way.

We stayed in a deluxe ocean view room #1823. The view from our balcony had some of everything. We could see the ocean, beach, city, and even glimpses of the mountains between hotels to the north. We were very happy with the view. The balcony is not huge, and only had one lounge chair to sit in. The rooms themselves are not very big but when we go on vacation we are not there to spend time in the rooms! We all found the beds to be really comfortable. Even my daughter slept thru the night which she never does at home! Our room did not have a coffee maker which was fine as Starbucks is just a few steps from the hotel. There was a little table with 2 barstool style chairs. Also a nice sized TV for the room and a playstation 3. There was a dresser which was big enough to fit my clothes, as well as both my kids clothes, but not my wife's, so she was the parent who lived out of a suitcase for this trip. There is also a closet and in-room safe. One downside to the room was that some of the outlets did not work, but we just took turns charging our devices. There was a small fridge in our room that was perfect for holding any breakfast items that we wanted to save for a snack. There was also 4 drinking glasses that were changed as we used them by the cleaning staff. The bathroom was not huge but served its purpose. Tub/shower combo and the water pressure was absolutely awesome! I miss it! There was lots of hot water. One thing about the hot showers was the steam would make everything in the bathroom damp, and the fan was or did not seem to be existent or working very well in there. Our room was cleaned daily by very friendly room staff. We would come back from our daily adventures to nicely made beds. Our towels were changed daily even if we hung them up( a card asked us to hang them up to save them so as to conserve energy). Fine by us, but what's the point of the card? Our bathroom soaps, shampoo etc were restocked as we used them up, which was nice. We did bring our own just in case.

The breakfasts included daily with your amenity fee were decent. There was muffins, danishes, pastries, cookies, fruit salad, juice, pop(for breakfast!) and coffee and tea. Also included which we ate a lot of was yoghurt of different varieties, some were not sealed properly when I opened them and had to be tossed, which was too bad. Everyday there was also a different Asian type of breakfast, either noodles or rice balls with a side of either kimchee(yummy) beans, or greens. I think our favorite breakfast item was the malasadas. 3-4 different varieties that were actually pretty good. We started calling my son Mr Malasada because he ate so many. We were given one bag to fill up with breakfast items. Seeing as we had 4 in our group this didn't seem enough. We just had to ask the breakfast supervisor at entry to the station and we were given an extra bag, no hassle. Instead of jockeying for a limited table we just ate up in our room. A note, breakfast opens at 630AM. If you want to be one of the first thri the line you should get there at least 10 mins early. The line got long otherwise but did move quickly. Items (especially the malasadas!) were restocked pretty quick which was nice.

The elevators were NOT a problem at all. Pass your room key in front of the sensor. Type in your floor. Done. I think the longest we waited for one of the 5 elevators was 30 seconds.

The DVD rentals included in the amenity few were a nice touch. However, a lot of the discs are scratched up and the movies would skip on the Playstation 3 BlueRay player. Other times the movies would not even work, such as The Hobbit. I think thought this was due to the movie being a DVD and not a BlueRay but other DVDs worked fine. The game rentals only worked if it was a PS3 game. If all the rentals were PS3 or BlueRays this problem could be averted in the future.

Wifi (also included in the fee) worked well as long as you were in your room. If you went onto your balcony it stopped working. There was wifi available in the lobby area but I never used it.

The pool was located next to the lobby. It is in a shady part of the hotel during the morning and early afternoon. The sun shines after that. The water is cool which is nice during the sunny afternoon but not so nice before that! You can borrow beach towels and beach chairs (number of chairs is limited) which is included in the amenity fee.

All in all I was extremely happy with my families stay at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. We all agreed it was a great location and the room was perfect for our needs. Should we make our way to Waikiki again we would definitely consider this Hotel.

It's not worth the value I paid. The rooms are not soundproof - you can clearly hear neighbours TVs and slamming of doors. Bathrooms are extremely small and the shower is in a bathtub with outdated handheld shower head. There is a mandatory charge of approx $20 per room for breakfast. The breakfast consists of basic continental cereal breakfast. It is very crowded as there is no seating area. So the hotel provides a brekafast bag, only one per room, for you to grab your breakfast to place in your bag to eat elsewhere. There is music playing all day from 7:30am - 11pm. So if your room is withinf several floors of the 3rd floor (pool area /band) you will be hearing music non stop all day long, which was the case for us. We have stayed just down the street at Hyatt Place for less and it is modern, extremely clean, variety of breakfast choices and seating, rooms are nice and clean and sound proof. Will not be coming back to Aston.

Aloha Natalie, we were sorry to learn about the inconveniences you encountered during your stay with us. Our guitarist sings each morning during breakfast hours, which ends at 9am. The Diamond Head side of our hotel is not affected by the live music. If our guests have a preference on which side of the hotel their room is located, we encourage them to place a request (depending on availability). In addition to our signature amenity, 'Breakfast on the Beach', the daily amenity fee also includes Wi-Fi, use of in room safe, movie & game rentals via PlayStation 3, local calls, and daily newspaper. Mahalo for staying with us, and for sharing your review. -Rebecca, Guest Services Coordinator

Our previous Hawaii trips included accommodation at The Hilton and The Marriott. These were more expensive hotels and we discovered The Aston Waikiki Beach was better value for money. It has a brilliant location, wifi and breakfast daily were included in the resort fee. Great location, we booked an ocean view room but were upgraded to a beachfront room - Cheers for that :)
The beach is directly across the road, Honolulu zoo is metres away, Tiki's is a great restaurant and the bar area is fun and friendly. There is always entertainment in the pool/bar area, even at breakfast. Public transport close. We have definitely found a great value for money hotel. Older style but clean and sufficient. Will stay again. Thankyou from 3 happy Aussies, Heidi, Joe and Debi.

Room Tip: The Beachfront rooms are great!

We made the reservations at the Aston Waikiki Beach through Priceline.
On checkin we were surprised to find that there is a compulsory $18 Amenity Fee covering "Buffet Breakfast" and video rentals. Despite the fact that we had not planned to eat breakfast at the hotel nor any intention to rent dvd's, it sounded reasonable. That is, until we saw what the Aston calls Buffet Breakfast. This is what I imagine a breakfast at a correctional institution looks like. As poor as the food was, worse was the fact that there is no place to eat it. Grotesque!
Everywhere in Hawaii you see great concern for the environment. Not at the Aston! The "breakfast" is served in numerous small styrofoam containers that will stay around long after we are gone.

The rooms are dated but ok. The front desk staff was not very friendly. The room safe did not work and the air conditioning could be turned on or off. I couldn't control the temperature or fan. The ice machine outside the room added excitement to the noises of the night.
The two good things are the location right on Waikiki Beach and the cleaning staff that were very friendly and did a great job.
If you decide to book the Aston Waikiki Beach because of the price, make sure to come with no expectations! And oh yes, add $18 to the price you thought you were going to pay.
