Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel
Ranked #56 of 84 Hotels in Honolulu
Reviewed March 28, 2013

My wife and I recently spent 2 pleasant nights at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. Because we were celebrating an anniversary they upgraded us to an Ocean Front Room with a great view of the Beach, Ocean and Diamond Head. The strip in front of the hotel is busy but you are in a great location to enjoy the beach and nearby shopping and restaurants. The room was comfortable and the staff was helpful and friendly. The Tiki Bar in the hotel is quite lively with a good menu. I would recommend to others looking for a solid, if not extravagant hotel with a great location on Waikiki beach.

Room Tip: Understand the difference between Ocean View, Ocean front, etc.

Aloha, and we are glad you enjoyed our hotel and friendly service. Guests celebrating their anniversaries with us receive a gift at check-in, and we offer category upgrades depending on availability. Our location is perfectly situated directly across the street from the beach, at the end of the Waikiki Strip, and next to Kapiolani Park and Honolulu Zoo. Mostly everything you need is walking distance, and there are plenty of trolleys and busses, as well.

This hotel has everything you could need. A great location right across from Waikiki beach and a tremendous view of Diamond Head . The included breakfast was basic but a unique idea with the byob bag. It was nice having a restaurant and live music on site and we enjoyed both the dining room and the lighter fare in the bar. It is also very convenient to walk to eat at other places if so desired. There is shopping, restaurants all around this area. The rooms were basic but the beds were comfortable and it was clean. The staff were very nice and helpful in meeting our needs. The only negative was the excursion counter...one if particular did not tell the truth and were not good to deal with. There are 3 so check out all of them and also online for more info. The pool was nice but very cold when we were there. They also give you beach chairs with your towels which was very nice for going to the beach. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of Diamond Head were awesome! Nice to wake up to that and I think probably quieter...

This is a lovely, very tiki style, Hawaiian hotel! The front desk, concierge's, and housekeeping were wonderful and helpful, and breakfast is served every morning from 6:30am-9am with music and hula dancing. It was wonderful! Something I looked forward to every morning! The singing and guitar music was beautiful, and the hula dancing was incredible, especially if you get to see Celeste! I would recommend this hotel to a couple or family! The partial views of the ocean and Diamond Head are gorgeous and the location to the beach and main street are fantastic! Also, Tiki's Grill and Bar are located in this hotel, and it is a fantastic restaurant for couples and families.

Room Tip: Ask for a partial ocean/Diamond Head view room, and for a room on a higher floor! You get a better...

We got a great rate on the Aston, it is directly across the street from the beach and our room had a great view of Diamond Head. Breakfast was included in our package and was good, if not pretty similar menu for the week we were there - but included is always good. Staff were pretty friendly, the rooms were pretty standard but certainly the hotel is a good value. It is also fairly central and close to the park, shopping and lounges!

The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Rooms were well kept, bed was very comfrotable. Waikiki beach right outside, what more could you ask for. Enough food options to choose from if you want to eat close, or have a snack like a sub, ice cream or cookies. Very nice Hotel would recommend to any one.

After reading a lot of reviews, I choose the Aston Hotel because it was rated 4 stars. The hotel claimed the rooms had been updated, that must have been several years ago. If contractors updated my house like this, I would be sick to my stomach. While we were there we switched rooms. Our first room was suppose to be a full ocean view, we were on the 25th floor (top floor). To get the ocean view you had to step out on the very small balcony and lean over the rail to see the ocean. An accurate room description would be the diamond head, zoo view. The room was Very Small! We decided to pay an extra $90 per night for the suite, great view and double the size of the room. We had a king bed with a pull out couch for teenage boys. The room had a great ocean view with 2 balconies. Our bathroom was handicap accessible. Needless to say there was a lot of rust on the shower wall, also our shower curtain had mold on it. On the second night we noticed that the pull out couch had a very soiled mattress! They changed the mattress but then it didn't fit the bed. So the next night we decided to move back to a small room with double beds. The free breakfast in the morning was the best! The location of the hotel was at the end of Waikiki so it wasn't as crowded. The con about that was that when you crossed the street to go to the beach, it was more of the public beach so you saw a lot of homeless people. Most of the homeless people do not bother you, but some of them yell profanities or insults. Homeless population is really bad in Honolulu. You will notice it more at this end not so much at the more expensive hotel end. I will not stay at this hotel again. I will look for a hotel that is on the beach not across the street from a beach. It is hard to know what kind of accommodations to stay at when you haven't been there. I hope this helps!

Aloha, yes, on review websites our hotel’s average rating is four stars- rated by people who have stayed with us. Our most popular category is ‘Ocean Front’ where rooms are located on the face of our property. Since we are directly across the street from the beach these rooms, and our property, provide spectacular views of the ocean. The ‘Ocean View’ and ‘Partial Ocean View’ rooms are located on the Diamond Head or Waikiki Side of our hotel. Leaning over the balcony is not necessary, or recommended, but standing on, or near the balcony may be depending on the location of the room. Our building was built during a time when location and views were priority rather than room size. We are sorry if the room was not big enough for 3-4 adults, but it seems that the larger Aloha Suite with pull out sofa bed provided more comfort for the family.
All of the beaches in Waikiki are public beaches- no hotels have ownership of any part of the land outside their property. Even the Ocean Front luxury hotels do not own any sand/water space, and anybody is able to access these surrounding areas. Each hotel is responsible for the people on their property, and we do have an excellent security team, cameras in the communal areas, and an elevator system that requires a room key in order to get to the floors above the lobby.

Sincerely,
Rebecca

We had four nights here while taking in the sights of Oahu. Convenient location on Waikiki Beach. You really can get around without a car and parking is a tough and expensive. It's moderately priced, we chose the partial ocean view and were surprised that we could actually see the ocean , everything was clean and well-kept. Surprised that it was fairly quiet inside the hotel as there is so much hustle and bustle in this area. I agree with others that an upper floor is probably quieter. They have a secure elevator system which is important because there is such open access from the street. Lots of people. Everything you need for dining, entertainment, shopping is within walking distance. The "free" breakfast is included in the resort fee, but resort fees seem to be the norm in Hawaii. The breakfast is just your basic continental fare , but it was convenient having it available rather than having to take up more of your time to go out. Friendly staff and smooth check-in.

Room Tip: Better view from higher floors

We are glad you enjoyed our friendly service and hotel. Our most popular category is the ‘Ocean Front’, which are rooms on the face of our hotel. The ‘Ocean View’ and ‘Partial Ocean View’ categories are located on the sides of our hotel, and also provide views of the ocean, as we are directly across the street from the beach.

Waikiki is busy, and yes, we do have excellent elevator systems. They were installed with the purpose to cut down on wait time for our guests, and they also aid in security because a key is required to reach a floor past our lobby.

Our daily amenity fee includes daily breakfast, hotel-wide WiFi, unlimited DVD and game rentals from the kiosk located in the lobby, local calls, use of in room safe, and daily newspaper. Many hotels in Waikiki do implement this charge, and we’ve found ours is tied at the lowest cost compared to similar hotels and provides a tremendous value to our guests.

Mahalo for your review, and for staying with us!
