We stayed at the Ala Moana Hotel for a week and would stay there again. It is convenient to the shopping center, with department stores, a grocery store, a bookstore, a food court and luxury specialty shops. On the other side is the convention center and the intersection of two major streets, one leading into Waikiki and the other leading off to downtown Honolulu a few miles away. The hotel was clean and nicely appointed. This is not a luxury setting, with thick, cushy towels. The towels do the job with no problem, but are what you might find at home. There is a nice Chinese restaurant in the hotel, where we had lunch not once but twice. There is also a Japanese bar like restaurant toward the back and a standard Western coffee shop. We asked to stay in the Waikiki tower, which we heard is more recently renovated. Very nice, quiet for the most part and a keyed elevator for guests. The beach is a couple of blocks away, but not so far as to be impractical. Again, a nice, good basic hotel, away from the bustle of Waikiki, and near the more local attractions of shopping and a beach park. We will stay here when we next need a hotel in Honolulu.

Room Tip: Ask for the Waikiki tower.

The Ala Moana is a large hotel right on the end of Waikiki and connected to the Ala Moana shopping center. I stay here on occasion for business (when I can't get a Hilton or Marriott brand) and it is an okay place. It has small, but clean rooms and is priced well for Honolulu. The location is great for shopping (if you like shopping) and is right across from a large beach park that is great for walking/running/beach. If you are looking for decent accommodations without any frills, this is a fine hotel.

This was our second leg of our Hawaiian trip. The lobby was amazing , but the rooms were awful!! It was not very clean and the sheets did not look fresh!! The rooms were not sound proof and you could hear conversations from inside. Everytime someone opened / closed a door I woke up!!
Chairs in the lobby were uncomfortable!! Location was great though!

First of all most units owned and operated by LSI out of Las Vegas. Carpets, beds and chairs need to be replaced. Very uncomfortable bed, carpet dirty and worn. Maid service very late in the day, view of harbor was nice, pool nice on 3rd floor. Parking $20 per day, very crowded at times. Convenient to Airport, taking the trolley was fun to Waikiki, but very crowded.

Room Tip: High floors get room with partial ocean view, check if owned and operated by LSI or the Hotel.

Luxury Suites out of Las vegas does not own any rooms here but manages about 10-12. We receive many comments similar to yours regarding the conditionof their units. Should you wish to return, please book with the Hotel Operator at alamoanahotel.com

I live here in Honolulu, but stay here occasionally for class reunions, weekend staycations, etc. My employer has all of its out-of-town job interviewees booked here, and the mainland folk love the central location. We can pick up our interviewees without battling the crazy gridlock of Waikiki. I need to emphasize that if you are dreaming of the white sands of Waikiki beach outside your front door, please stay at a hotel in Waikiki. This hotel is a 15-min stroll from Waikiki, and is a block away from the very lovely and spacious Ala Moana beach park, great for swimming and family gatherings. It can get crowded on weekends & summer, but is less crowded than Waikiki. If you, like me, are not a water person, you must check out the largest outdoor shopping mall in the world, Ala Moana Shopping Center, which this hotel is physically connected to.

Room Tip: get a room with a lanai and an ocean view

Thank you for your comments. We find that many of our guests prefer Ala Moana Beach Park to Waiki Beach as it is far less crowded. Mahalo

This was our first time staying at this hotel in this area. The hotel room was clean, nice view. The exercise room was always busy but the equipment and size of the room was decent. The lounge in the hotel lobby was never open while we were there and the there is an upscale bar/night club that is open a couple days a week with dress restrictions so if you want a drink or a snack your looking at walking 10-15 minutes into the Ala Moana Shopping Centre. The hotel room price was reasonable which makes the stay worth while but unless you want to walk and shop/eat at the mall, your best to book something closer to Waikiki beach. We also found that on the back side of the hotel facing the mall the music from the open air mall would keep us awake until 1:00 am. The chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor is average which speaks to about what you will experience. If your shopping around for a good deal and the rooms at this hotel are your best price then you won't be disappointed but then your stay won't be over the top!

Room Tip: Chose the hotel and not the suites.

We appreciate your comments but would like to point out that there is an excellent Restaurant/Bar on the 36th floor "Signature Staek & Seafood" that opens every night at 5 pm and has stunning views. Mahalo

We stayed here for three nights. Our suite was in the Waikki tower and was a corner suit. We had amazing views of the beautiful beach and the city lights. We loved staying next door to the Ala Moana shopping centre/mall. The staff at reception were terrific, especially the lovely lady who handled our reservation upon arrival. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner suite as these have wonderful views, especially on the higher floors.
