“This is my first choice and I know Waikiki well!”
Reviewed April 11, 2011

The Polynesian Plaza is well-centered on Waikiki and only about a block away from the beach. Next door is the new Hard Rock Café and within one block is the new Trump Tower with its multi-million dollar condos. I was initially referred here by a friend who has been staying here for quite a while and who spoke very highly of it. Everything I have encountered has been as good or better and as much or more than my initial impressions from my friend and the internet. The furnishings are attractive, highly functional, attractively white and off-white in color and include excellent lighting in all four corners of the main room. In terms of furniture, the Plaza has covered every possible base in terms of accommodating all possible needs and the insurance of comfort—they have insured nothing but the best and this philosophy is even evident in their pillow selections. The kitchen has everything you need—stove, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, silverware, dishes, dish towels and cooking pans—even measuring cups. Unlike many hotel rooms that are dark and dingy-looking in nature because of the darkly colored appointments, these rooms are light, airy and not only immaculately clean in appearance, but they are functionally super-clean. This is my 27th trip to Hawaii (I am now retired and come twice a year for the better part of a month) and I have never been as pleased with a room in every way. The room appointments give evidence of complete competence in the profession.
The two attentive, caring and friendly ladies on the staff here have been here for quite a while and have taken ownership of the responsibility to insure that residents needs are accommodated in every reasonable way—not to mention that they are also indeed a pleasure to deal with—they show great pride in the facility and help to make everyone feel at home.

Room Tip: I have no preference-I've seen the 3 types.

This is an older place, and the decor is a bit tired. That being said, the price is great, and the location is also. It is situated at the Fort DeRussey end of Waikiki, right on Kalakaua Ave. It's about 1-1/2 blocks to the beach, an easy walk to most things on Waikiki, and the bus stop is right out the back entrance. There are no telephones, so it's wise to bring a cell phone that has a plan that will cover the area, and any calls you may need to make to your home. You will have a small kitchenette, so that can be a further saving, and the bus will take you to either the Food Pantry on Kuhio or Foodland at Ala Moana Shopping Center. There are coin operated washers/dryers, and also a pool and sundeck in a small courtyard. Many of the guests are older, and have been coming to this same place for years. The only other difference between this and most hotels is that there is no housekeeping, so you clean up after yourself, and return the room as you found it: clean sheets, towels, fridge, etc. We would go back again... and probably will.

My husband and I travelled to Waikiki in March. We found this place after much searching on the internet. It was hundreds of dollars cheaper than anywhere else we could find. The units have kitchenettes
(everything you need while on holiday, since you probably won't be cooking elaborate meals), and while they're a bit old, they're certainly clean.

We could have paid a lot more for another hotel, and not really had a
better room. As for the "sketchy" area from another review, we had no
problems at all, and were out late many nights.

I recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to spend most of their budget on a room you're hardly ever in anyway.

A quaint little place, swimming pool is available, units with kitchenettes or none. Lots of repeat visitors from as far away as New Zealand. Just like a big Family enviroment.
