“Great for a light snack before a night out”
Reviewed May 3, 2012

My girlfriend had Kohnotori on her "to eat" list. First the place is tricky to find (behind the 7/11 from the street).

It serves yakitori (skewered meat) with some exotic cuts: liver, heart, gizzards, chicken skin and the rest of the more vanilla cuts like pork, beef and chicken. The cook will prepare the skewers right in front of you on a wood charcoal grill, so you will get to enjoy the smells and the show before you can get to enjoy the taste.

We tried a few things and our favorites were:

The chicken meatball
The bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms
The gizzards

You should definitely consider spending one of your meal tickets here if you are visiting Honolulu.

“I absolutely love this place”
Reviewed January 3, 2012

If you know what "yakitori" is, then you'd love this place. Yakitori is skewered meat cooked on a grill, and is very Japanese. The restaurant is an izakaya (Japanese for a restaurant where plenty of alcohol is served). Since the grill is right in the restaurant, it can get just a tad smoky, but this adds to the great atmosphere.
The main ingredient used here is chicken. If you like chicken, this is the place to come. They have chicken breast, chicken livers, checken heart, chicken skin, chicken burger, even chicken tail, all on a stick and grilled to perfection. Their fried chicken is excellent, too. Other non chicken items on the menu that are awesome are bacon asparagus, ginko nuts, fried garlic, and beef tongue. Actually, I don't think I'e been disappointed with anything on the menu.
They have Japanese beer on tap and a decent lineup of Japanese shochu and sake as well.
I've been here plenty of times, and I'll be going here in the future.
