Located on the quiet Beach Walk. It has both counter seating and table seatings. The space is quite small. They have more than just noodle (hand made fresh soba noodle is their specialty) so you can certainly try other foods. There are not much "protein" in these noodle bowl or cold noodle. Besides the "chicken" or "tempura", most of them are with vegetables. The broth is rather sweet and bland for my liking. In term of service, I saw the lady 2 times: to take order and to bring the food. We had to walk to the counter and asked to pay since no one brought us the bill. For the food quality and the "content" of the noodle bowl, the price is rather high.

I would go to the Ramen Nakamura around the corner over this restaurant.

Always oishi. Great soba, just like being in Japan. Try the Natto Cold Soba. The freshness of their ingredients can't be beat!

We loved their hand freshly made soba. We tried 4 different code soba: the one with hot chicken broth, the one with sesame dipping, the regular one and the one with mushrooms. There were all good and very tasty.
I think the best kept secret is that you can call ahead to get reservation. We got there around 6:45 and they have quite a few tables on hold for 7PM reservation.
Ohh, and you have to get the freshly made cold tofu, it's delicious!!

Our family visited Matsugen on Sunday for lunch. We were there just as it opened, so it was not very busy and easily got a table for 5 of us. The soba noodles was so delicious! My in laws who are from Japan said that it reminded them of the "quality" soba noodles they had when they lived there. I think the "cold" noodles lets you have a true experience of the taste and texture of the soba noodles. We all tried different dishes and enjoyed all of them! Make sure you park in the Bank of Hawaii building on weekends... only $1 with their validation. We will definitely visit again soon!
