Best Western The Plaza Hotel
Ranked #55 of 84 Hotels in Honolulu
Reviewed May 3, 2010

We needed a hotel close to airport for an early morning departure. Best Western generally has a good reputation for hotel/motel accomodations in the state where we live.

Checked in using AARP discount rates. We were given a room on the top floor. At first glance the room appreared to be as pictured in on line advertising. However, closer inspection revealed a bathroom with rusted chrome in the bathtub, a leaky sink faucet. An inspection of the room revealed areas that had not been dusted for months, furniture that was worn and dirty. Climbing into bed revealed a king sized mattress that sagged. The mechanical unit above the room on the roof was extremely noisy.

The dining room next to the pool had a pleasant appearance and the staff was courteous and prompt. The meal was not tasty and one-half of each meal was not eaten. The dining room was only open Friday thru Monday with a pricey menu.

A disappointing ending to a week's vacation in Hawaii.

My stay here was great and the service was outstanding. Close to the airport and the food was great. Everytime you saw any personnel that worked here they always had a smile.

The hotel is nice place to use for a stopover if traveling thru Hawaii. It is also great if you are working at the base. It is 5 mins from the base and has a great military plan. The bed could be a little more firmer cuz I did have some minor soreness a few times when waking up. Restaurant food is good but only breakfast is available 7 days a week. Dinner service is shared between this hotel and a "sister" hotel. The hotel also needs more free TV channel selections. No essential channels like Syfy, Hist, NatGeo, or TLC are available. Pool area is nice but nothing like the hotels in Waikiki so if you are a tourist, hotels in Waikiki are for you unless you need to cut your vacation costs.

It was so confusing and the driver that picked us up was very rude telling us to walk to the best western or back to the airport. Whoever idea was these, very clever! try to fool the tired people who the last thing we need is scolding from drivers! Fix your shuttle van's signs because it is not funny!

Aloha,

Our company has several hotels in the area and use co-branded shuttle busses, however have the name lit up in LED's on the front and side of the shuttle. If this was the incorrect shuttle, the driver should have explained that the proper one was on its way. I'd encourage you to contact me directly at the hotel so i can get more detials for follow up.

Thank you for taking time in writing your review. We appreicate the feedback and will share it with all our team members.

I had two nights on business on the west side of the Island. I arrived on the Island on a late flight and booked the Best Western, Plazapartly because I could take their Airport shuttle and not worry about a rental car until the next morning. I booked a Budget car and was able to walk to the pick up spot. If you book at Thrifty or Advantage their lots are one block and two blocks away.
The room was well appointed, there was a handy shop in the hotel wtih a variety of food and beverages. I wondered about staying between the airport and the freeway, but my room in the tower was quiet. The fridge and micro in the room were handy. I would stay here again if I was in on business. Pool area is very nice.

Stayed here back in 01 when we moved to Hawaii and then again for a trip back to Hawaii w/ kids. It's probably the most affordable on the island, great views of the mountians and you can see the rainbows and the beach. The hotel is nice, good, clean rooms, wonderful pool, gift shop etc. The location is not so nice. If your military it's great...close to Hickam and Pearl Harbor, but it is an industrial area. Right off nimitz under the highway, surrounded by car lots and sooooo close to the airport. there is a decent resturaunt in the hotel. If this is a vacation you will have to have a rental car or use cabs or "Da Bus" to get to shopping or the beach...no where near walk on access. Really best for an economy trip or a military family move (for military folks...the resturant issued TLA bucks, so if your on TLA you will save a ton on meals!!!)

Aloha and thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Best Western the Plaza Hotel. Thanks to a major upgrade the rooms are very nice.
Since you last visit the neighborhood has been upgraded considerably. There is a small mall five minutes walk from the hotel with several food establishments, Starbucks and a small convenience store which is very handy for the guest.

I'm sorry to say we don't have the TLA bucks, but do offer convenience and affordability for our TLA and Military personnel.
We hope to welcome you back again soon.
Island Regards -

We stayed at the plaza best western late March and early April 2010. This was a clean hotel close to the airport with a free airport shuttle. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Next to the hotel is Byron's Drive In but you can walk in also. The have very authenic hawaiian food at a good price. The hotel does not have a hot tub but does have a nice pool. The only other downside is getting to Waikiki. The bus takes about 45 min but the stop is right outside the hotel. Taxi's will run 25 to 50 dollars
