Owner description: Hawaii Food Tours™ was created by Hawaii's #1 Food Writer and Restaurant Reviewer, Chef Matthew Gray. It's for those who love food & fun. Voted Best Tours on Oahu for the past two years in a row! Two different daily tours; one takes place in & around Honolulu... the other goes to the North Shore. We will feed, educate and entertain you all day long! MSNBC Network called us one of the best food experiences in the world! These fantastic tours feature Yummy Food, Fascinating History, and Culinary Decadence! Our Famous Hole-in-the-Wall Tour™ includes a behind-the-scenes walking and tasting tour in Honolulu's amazingly colorful Chinatown! It's an entertaining, informative and FUN Honolulu City Tour with several stops, including 2 of Hawaii's most famous Bakeries & one of a kind Marketplaces. You'll be eating between 15 & 20 different foods! This tour takes place all over Honolulu, away from the touristy areas of Waikiki, where only the real locals go to eat. Our North Shore Food Tour™ gives guests a tasty glimpse of the colorful and rural "countryside" area of our island of Oahu. Many people read about the North Shore, about the beautiful huge waves, the garlic shrimp trucks, and rustic away-from-the-city areas, and that's what we give our guests, including some genuine Hawaiian food, a garlic shrimp plate, various pastries, Hawaiian Beer, and a visit to a coffee and sugar plantation.

“fun way to see the city”

We generally don't like organized tours, but this was really fun, and a great way to learn where to eat. Try to do this on your first day, so that you can take advantage of the guides' suggestions and avoid the tourist traps. The guides are excellent, and you sample a wide range of local specialties, and exotic fruits. After the tour, you'll get an email with a review of what you ate on the tour, tons of restaurant tips, and even recipes. I highly recommend this tour. You'll be picked up at your hotel.

“Best and tastiest tour ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

We booked this tour on a whim, and it turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of our trip! We were picked up by the lovely Sahara and Mike who are both very knowledgeable and friendly. Tour guides like these guys make you want to hang out with them all day.

We were taken around in the big black van through Chinatown, various bakeries and other yummy places around Honolulu.
Make sure you come with an empty stomach, you get the perfect amount of food and also see areas you might not otherwise see while in Honolulu.

THANK YOU SAHARA AND MIKE!!! You guys are the best and just so you know, we walked over a mile from Waikiki a few days later just to get another taste of those malasadas!

“Avoid the tourist spots and find some hidden food gems”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

My wife and I have experienced many food tours in several cities, the Hole in the Wall tour stood among the top of those tours. The guides, Mike and Sahara were excellent - friendly, very observant, and extremely well coordinated. The best thing for me was that the food was tailored to the individuals. On a few of the foods, options were given on meat choice or flavors, so this allowed my wife and I to get something different and try 2 different items.
There was a lot of time concentrated in Chinatown area and it would've been better to maybe see some different spots, but the amount of food, the quality, and the variety was just great. The pace was not rushed and the guides spent time to give personalized recommendations of additional things to do and eat in not, just Oahu, but the other islands as well. This is a great tour when arriving on your first couple of days, to experience places you probably wouldn't normally end up at, but really thankful that you did. The recommendations that they provided based on our preferences, ended up being the gift that kept giving as we were able to enjoy several of them later on during our vacation.

“Can't stop smiling!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

We were on the same tour as the reviewers who wrote on Nov. 7 and we echo everything they said! Matthew, Keira, and even "trainee" Rachael are absolute professions. From the moment we stepped into the van, we felt a sense of cheerful, positive energy that kept us smiling the whole four hours. Top that off with their passion, thoughtfulness, and extensive knowledge of not only the food, but also the culture, history, and environment, not to mention the unique variety of food samplers they've chosen, and you end up with an unforgettable experience. Sure, it's not cheap, but if you're one of those people who believes that you get what you pay for, you will appreciate the value of a tour like this that satisfies on so many levels. Just writing this and reliving that day is giving us another endorphin rush!
