Owner description: Hawaii Food Tours™ was created by Hawaii's #1 Food Writer and Restaurant Reviewer, Chef Matthew Gray. It's for those who love food & fun. Voted Best Tours on Oahu for the past two years in a row! Two different daily tours; one takes place in & around Honolulu... the other goes to the North Shore. We will feed, educate and entertain you all day long! MSNBC Network called us one of the best food experiences in the world! These fantastic tours feature Yummy Food, Fascinating History, and Culinary Decadence! Our Famous Hole-in-the-Wall Tour™ includes a behind-the-scenes walking and tasting tour in Honolulu's amazingly colorful Chinatown! It's an entertaining, informative and FUN Honolulu City Tour with several stops, including 2 of Hawaii's most famous Bakeries & one of a kind Marketplaces. You'll be eating between 15 & 20 different foods! This tour takes place all over Honolulu, away from the touristy areas of Waikiki, where only the real locals go to eat. Our North Shore Food Tour™ gives guests a tasty glimpse of the colorful and rural "countryside" area of our island of Oahu. Many people read about the North Shore, about the beautiful huge waves, the garlic shrimp trucks, and rustic away-from-the-city areas, and that's what we give our guests, including some genuine Hawaiian food, a garlic shrimp plate, various pastries, Hawaiian Beer, and a visit to a coffee and sugar plantation.

What a great cultural experience for the taste buds but just as much a knowledgeable tour of the city core. This tour was so well planned out that there was no time wasted yet not rushed. The food just kept coming while we learned about history, restaurants and local stories. After the tour an email arrives that highlights the tour so all that valuable information is not lost. I can't wait to try the recipes when I get home with my family and friends.

We went on the food tour with Matt, Keira and Rachel as our guides in November 2012 and it was terrific! They really know their food in Honolulu! We have been on many food tours all over the world and this was definitely the best! We went to about 6 different places and tried about 15 different items, all of which had great different flavors. Unlike some tours where you get a tiny bite of each type of food, the food samples here were a good size. Also, the places stopped at really had good food. We liked everything we ate. The places we stopped at were well thought out and showed a good knowledge of what the best is. One of the places we stopped at was Chinatown which is probably a place we would not feel too comfortable trying to eat at on our own since the places can be so "hit or miss", but the places we went to there were excellent. We can now eat as locals. They also gave us a bit of a tour of the non-food places we passed along the way! After the tour, we felt like family!

We just got back from Hawaii and I wanted to write this review since it was one of our best memories from our trip. We loved spending time with our guides Matthew, Keira and Rachel. We felt like we had come to visit our best friends in Honolulu and they were the hosts of a progressive luncheon that they had arranged for us. We laughed, shared stories and learned alot of new things...about the culture, the food and the history of the area.Since the group we were with was small, it was very personal and you didn't feel that you were part of a traditional tour. We loved the whole day....the baked manapuas from the Royal Kitchen, the Rice Noodles from the Ying Leong Look Finn Factory (wow what a process), the Korean BBQ Chicken from Jackie's corner, the Ma tai su/chinese pot pie from the SIng Cheong Yuan Bakery, the Spam Musubi, ahi poke and the pineapple especially with the plum powder. We also loved the coconut tarts and the banana lumpia--yummy! Cheers to Keira on our own homemade cocktail that we got to try..the lychell-vodka pineapple smoothie. We found the time at Sun Chong with all the exotic snacks really interesting..I liked the dried fuits but I don't believe that I will be munching on dried squid anytime in the near future as my snack of choice :). We would llove to eat every week the Char Siu (Chinese sweet boneliess pork) and the Sugar or custard Malasadas at Leonard's!!! We loved having some time on our own to explore China Town and see more of its wonderful markets and little shops.

The day came to an end way too fast. We appreciated the follow up email with notes about our day and the receipes that I am anxious to try. Matthew and Keira Rod and I wish you the very, very best on your upcoming nuptuals...We look forward to getting another opportunity in the future to "hang out". Again, thanks for such a great memory from our trip to Honolulu! Hugs from Detroit!! Cindi and Rod Tincknell

Just got back in from the food tour with Bill and Sahara. I am exhausted, super full, overwhelmed and I'd do it all again. The tour is so enjoyable and it isn't just a food tour. It is a true day tour of Hawaii a real chance to learn about the area. Bill truly brings a feeling of warmth and hospitality to the tour and Sahara is enthusiastic, fun and easy to get along with. I loved almost everything I tried and really enjoyed the group dynamic. It's a great way to spend a part of the day and learn about the local foods. And to those who complain about there being too much walking and not enough food; do everyone a favor and just go to a buffet. This is a tour, not a never-ending meal. The money you pay goes to the cost of every aspect of the tour, not JUST the food you consume. It is not a cheap tour, but truly worth every penny.

Bill and Sahara did a superb job introducing us to some of the best local restaurants, markets, and foods. They pick you up in their comfortable van and fill the journey with historical information. They answer questions and give recommendations. The tour stops at the local haunts you'd have a difficult time finding with a guide book. Then the food- a lot of tasty delights, sweet and savory. Don't eat before the tour.
