“Good value, large rooms, in Central Waikiki”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Overall, a good value: Outstanding location, friendly staff, reasonable room sizes. Let down by poor upkeep & maintenance. It's a basic residential option best suited for exploring Honolulu and Oahu, and definitely not for a beach resort experience. Then again, you probably knew that coming into Waikiki.

Stayed for 3 nights in a 2-bedroom unit at the end of the building. Mid-$200s AAA rate, booked directly via hotel website.

The Good
---
* Location is fantastic. Right above 3 outstanding restaurants (Ginza Bairin for Tonkatsu, Matsugen for Soba, Arancino for Italian), next to convenience stores, right in central Waikiki.
* 2-bedroom unit was plenty large for a family of 4.
* Condominium format lends a very lived-in feel.
* Great staff. Front desk & housekeeping were friendly and responsive.
* Parking is a great deal, albeit first-come first-served. $20 self-park per night, come & go as you please, can start morning of Day 1 and end evening of Day 2 for that price.
* Recently and tastefully renovated.
* All of the rooms have the view of weekly fireworks, on Fridays 7:30pm.

The Bad
---
* Limited service, no daily housekeeping.
* No onsite pool.

The Ugly
---
* Sloppy upkeep: We found dust bunnies galore behind headboards, various electronics (like WiFi router & alarm clock) unplugged, hair on bathroom floor (eww!), dried loogie-looking things on shower curtain (EWW!), stains on living room rug, burnt-out lightbulbs, dirty A/C filters and vents, mildewy shower grouts. The rooms just don't seem like they get cleaned often.
* Lagging maintenance: Visible rust on shower drains, many many wall chips and scuff marks, many loose fixture screws, maladjusted A/C thermostats, loose shower controls, loose water pipes, etc etc. Though the renovation was recent, it feels like things are going to pot quickly.

Other tips
---
* Know how to pair WiFi devices via WPS.
* Dollar/Thrifty on Kalakaua is a walking distance away, often has advance specials in $35/day range on website. Make it a 1-day rental to avoid parking charges at hotel.
* As mentioned earlier, the 3 in-building restaurants are all fantastic.
* Don't miss Henry's Place across the street, for fruits and homemade ice cream.

Room Tip: Pretty sure all of the rooms have the fireworks view. We saw it from the 3rd floor lanai, only sligh...

Just returned from an eight night stay at the Regency...
First be aware that they are doing a complete renovation of the hotel directly behind the Regency so we were woke up each weekday before 7am by some serious construction noise...not the Regencys fault but people should know.
Also important to note that Expedia states on the info for this property that rollaway/extra beds are available, but when I called to arrange for one in our room they said it was not possible! After a 10 minute coversation with Wincy, the manager, we were given a two bedroom suite to accomodate my family, which was appreciated!
The location for this hotel is excellent...the room was spacious and appointed well, just like the photos show. Our room was on the second floor, so no views, higher floors would be better I am sure. My only concerns were the level upkeep in the room. Hotels will typically go into a room on a regular basis to repair and/or touch up the rooms. Sadly this hotel does not seem to do this service. Closet doors were off track with the rollers torn off, wood work and walls need alot of touch up! Both of the AC units need to be cleaned, expecially the outside units, where the coils were so dirty that the AC did not work very well at all....I used the broom in the room to brush them off a little so they worked better, but they waste alot of energy running more than necessary.

With a little effort, this place would be fantastic......maybe the other rooms are in better shape.

Theses things did not affect out vacation, and the use of the facilities at the Outrigger Reef is a great addition.

We are a little late with this review! Stayed here in March 2012. 2 adults and 3 children in the 2 bedroom cityview.

Room was perfect for us. Kitchenette, sofabed, huge patio. Wonderful staff. Large apartment. Can't wait to return.

Hard rock cafe across the road. The shortest walk imaginable for a hotel not situated on the beach. Straight out the front door and down to Outrigger Reef to use the HUGE pool and onto the beach.

LOVE THIS PLACE

Stayed for around $200 a night in early March. Loved being near all the shopping and restaurants. You have access to the other Outrigger hotel about two blocks away, which is on the beach and has a pool. The rooms are very spacious and clean. Nice having the full kitchen or at minimum the full fridge for stocking up on breakfast food and beer. Never missed getting a glass of the POG juice from in the lobby. Parking is right behind the hotel as well, but has a fee of $30/day. Views Honolulu from the 9th floor were great, even got a little ocean view. Gave it 4/5 because they don't do maid service everyday but that's expected at most condos.

Stayed here in February for a week with 2 other friends. Firstly, location was perfect... Close to beach, pool( at the nearby outrigger) and shopping at Ala Moana. The condos are roomy with a huge lanai and unrestricted views of the city landscape plus some ocean( we were in a 2 bedroom ocean view room). More like a private apartment than a hotel room. Ample room for three friends sleeping separately as the lounge doubled as a very comfortable sofa bed. I need to stress that the service we received from Chris at the front desk from start to finish was second to none. He was always pleasant, helpful and was a great source of local knowledge. Nothing was ever too hard for Chris and we appreciated his help and happy Hawaiian spirit. I have travelled a lot and stayed at many hotels, but this experience was nothing like a large hotel with too many people to deal with and an overcrowded lobby.........rather, it was a small lobby with excellent staff offering a personalized service. It felt like coming home every night after a busy day. We will return for another great holiday and to catch up with new found local friends!

Chris K.....aloha!

We stayed here for 2 nights in February. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. Loved the POG juice and coffee in the lobby after a long day of sightseeing. The condo is beautifully decorated and has a generous lanai. We had a city view and watched the fireworks on Friday evening. Its a nice quiet place in the midst of a very busy location. ABC store and wonderful restaurants just outside the door. A short walk to the lovely pool and beach at the Outrigger Reef. Had a wonderful breakfast on the beach at the Reef's Shorebird Restaurant.

This was the most enjoyable property we've ever vacationed in. Chris at the front desk made the stay much more relaxing. He was very friendly, kind and extremely helpful. Most of all he made our family feel at home.
Hope to be back soon.
Much Aloha
