We requested same day reservations for a Thursday, after 8:30 was available. Must be a popular spot, it is. Jammed packed at 8:30, and a bit noisy. The food was excellent, all fresh. The owner is a huge Slow-Food supporter, which is why we went. Despite the noise, we will return, the food was that good.

Get out of Waikiki! This comfortable venue is about 10-15 minutes away and has a totally casual neighborhood feel. It is reasonably priced and the service is excellent. The emphasis is on fresh and local (I realize this is now a common theme everywhere), and the chef is talented. Most everything is good. We liked the salads, Ahi tartare, and the gnocchi. The place is full of locals, but tourists will fit right in. Dress is csual, with some shorts, but I'd avoid beach attire. The wine menu might appear daunting because you won't recognize everything. A lot of thought went into the list and the prices are very reasonable. I've been to most of Honolulu's highly esteemed restaurants and this is right up there.

Had dinner on a Monday. By 6:30 the place was almost full. I had gnocchi and husband had meat loaf. We also had corn chowder. Aside from the soup that was wonderful, the meals were bland. My gnocchi was ok but sauce was very average and the few brocoll pieces were overlooked and soggy. Service was very good and our server recommended a good wine. However the restaurant is a $8-10 can ride from the closest side of Waikiki. That expense combined with the unexciting food makes the place a poor dining choice.

We have a small organic farm and grow most of our own vegetables and meat and eggs. This restarant easily passed the fresh and imaginative test. Produce was good, cured meat products were well done. Gnocchi were very well made.

This a small restaurant that can be quite busy and loud even with windows and doors opening up the front wall/entrance. While not the place for a quiet dinner, it is a great restaurant for good food.

Parking in the neighborhood can be a challenge. Allow yourself an additional 10-15 minutes to troll for a spot so you won't be late for your reservation.

Away from the touristy areas of Honolulu and Waikiki. Casual and hopping neighborhood restaurant. Menu changes daily to reflect the freshest ingredients. Worth the trip.
