“Very impressed with value and service”
Reviewed July 5, 2009

The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The rooms were modern and clean. The buffet style breakfast was very good with many selections available. The managers reception provided complimentary drinks and live entertainment. The pool area was very nice and provided a view of the ocean. The beach was one block away. The location was near many shopping areas and attractions which could be reached by walking. All the staff from the lady who cleaned, to the bartenders, to the valet service was most helpful. An activities coordinator was most helpful arranging various trips and services. We checked out at 11 am but had a 10 pm flight. The staff offered us a complimentary room to freshen up before leaving that afternoon. They held our luggage that day and called a cab when we were ready to depart for the airport. Overall, we were pleased with the hotel property, the staff and the service they provided. With the buffet style breakfast and the manager's reception, this especially made this hotel a great value for the money.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Waikiki for 3 nights at the end of June 2009 before 6 nights in Maui. We've stayed at Embassy Suites many, many times in several different States over the years but this was 'NOT' your typical Embassy Suites.

We reserved it 6 months prior for $175 per night with a King size bed. We ended up with a Queen size bed and was told no Kings were available. The room was so small, not the usual large two bedroom suites that you think Embassy Suites is known for. We were on the 9th floor and the view was nice except for half of it was taken up by the new 20 story building under construction next door.

The noise of the pounding pile driver lasted throughout the day on all three days. I realize that's the chances you take and construction noise is sometimes unavoidable. The pool was small and nothing special. The breakfast buffet was decent but just didn't feel like the other Embassy Suites for some reason.

Don't be fooled by the 'Beach Walk' in the title. The only walk to the beach from the hotel went down a narrow concrete walkway with an up close and personal view and smell of the Shorebird Restaurant garbage dumpster. The walkway is filthy and several of the local drunks stagger through it day and night.

When you walk out any of the entrances/exits, you end up having to fight off the same tour vendors hounding you until they're out of shouting distance of you. They have their booths set up within 20 feet of the hotel walkways.

I would never stay at this hotel again and would not recommend it...at least not to a friend.

As many of you know, the breakfast at the Embassy Suites is incredible. The rooms are great and were clean also. But, because it was located one block from the beach, in between other tall buildings, you could be anywhere at all in the World instead of Hawaii. You couldn't see any beach or gorgeous mountainscapes. it was close to the main strip of Waikiki and there were lots of shops and restaurants very close by. In Oahu, unless you leave the Waikiki area and head either east, west or north, it's like being in South Beach.

Our family stayed at the hotel from Wednesday June 10th until Saturday June 13th, and again for 1 night on the following Saturday. Our plane arrived around Noon and we were pleased to find that a room was available for an early check-in. We were upgraded to the top floor, 21st floor of the Hula tower, away from the construction of the Trump tower, as we were celebrating our anniversary and are Gold Hilton Honors members. After a champagne cocktail the bell man helped us to our room with the luggage. The room was very large and roomy. The balcony had a beach view, but the room did not have a beach front view. The area around the hotel is very congested with road and hotel construction occurring. We heard no construction noise in our room or during any time we ate or were at the pool. The beach access is very close; less than .25 mile, but this area of the beach is technically not Waikiki and is less busy, populated. That was better for our 2 children, ages 8 and 9, but we did walk down to the busier part of the beach one day to experience the true Waikiki. The beach near the hotel is very narrow and at high tide, one day, the water came onto the sidewalk. Chairs and umbrellas are available for rent by the hour or by the day and life guards are present most of the time. The pool and breakfast area are on the 4th floor and this hotel does not have the typical atrium of other Embassy Suites. Pool towels are available on the 4th floor also, with an inefficient check-in and check-out policy of writing how many towels you took and returned on a piece of paper. The breakfast was similar every morning, with a few variations tossed in. Omelets and fresh fruit, cut fruit, cereal, yogurt and pastries were always available. Sausages, bacon, fresh toast, potatoes as well as rice, miso soup were also usually available. The manager's receptions were usually quite busy with great cocktails and light snacks, chips with salsa, pretzels, goldfish, etc. One night pizza was served. During both breakfast and the evening reception, fountain drinks and coffee/tea were available. The hotel is very convenient to the main Waikiki shopping areas and many restaurants. After our stay we went on a NCL cruise and returned to the hotel for 1 night before flying home. For the 1 night stay, we were in a room on the 2nd floor with no balcony. This room was much smaller and we heard much street noise throughout the night. I would recommend a room on a high floor for this reason.

I have no negative comments to make regarding the Embassy Suites Waikiki Beach Walk. Check-in was good. It was explained to us by reception that we needed to use our room key in order to use the elevator. We stayed in the Hula Tower and I liked the ocean view from the room. The room had a fridge, microwave, kitchen sink and also table and chairs for eating if one desired to eat in the room. The decor was modern and very comfortable. The breakfast was great - one could have a 'cooked to order breakfast' or there was a good variety of other food - fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals etc. The location of the hotel is very good - just a walk through the street in front of the hotel to the beach and the hotel has shops all around. Because we were out sightseeing all the time I didn't try the pool. Trump Tower apartments, next door, may have had noisy construction going on in the past but the apartment building is now up and is at the painting stage. I would stay at the Embassy Suites again and would recommend it to my friends.

My wife and I had planned a romantic get away for over a year and with the great reviews posted on this hotel. We booked it. Of course it was our mistake because we didn't read the bad reviews posted. There is good info in them and all true.

I rate the hotel a 1 star. The hotel is rated as a 3 star but there isn't a restaurant in the hotel, the reception desk is in the parking garage...really, it's next to parked cars!

The rooms are very small for suites and overpriced. Little to no view from the surrounding buildings. Only the rooms on the end of on tower has a view to the ocean if your on a higher floor.

There is a security issue as other people have stated with the 4rth floor. Anyone can access the 4rth floor and come in the hotel with the escalators from the street on the back side of the hotel. No security is checking if people are staying in the hotel. The floor is also where the pool/breakfast areas are. We watched many people come into the pool area from the escalators that did not appear to be staying in the hotel.

Breakfast is a standard breakfast. Nothing to really get excited about...just filler food with really no seasoning. Spam fried rice was interesting to say the least.

The Managers Special in the evening is a plus but be carefull when tipping. I gave "Two Buck Chuck" a $20 to break so I could tip him and he had only given my back $17. I didn't notice unitl I had already tipped him $2 that round...so he got a $5 tip. The amount of the money isn't important, but just be aware if this type of shadyness.

The other reviews are correct with the room walls being paper thin. Don't expect to get your "freak on" and the people next door not hear you. You can hear what people are saying in the next room.

We finally had enough of the hotel and went to the Hyatt. The Hyatt gave us a much cheaper rate, had better ammenities and customer service was very classy.

Embassy Suites needs to put thier workers through customer service or etiquette classes on how to treat and speak to customers. For example: Say please and thank you, we're sorry for your inconvenience, how may I help you and smile. NOT what do you want? (This was actually said to me)

Last thing is housekeeping...super slow cleaning the rooms. The other reviews are correct stating the rooms are being cleaned late afternoons. Most people are trying to prepare for the evening during the times the rooms are being cleaned. Very inconvenient.

So enter at your own risk.
