My family ate at Nico's and enjoyed the food, but found the wait staff to be lazy and disinterested in earning a tip. We had two diners in our party that are gluten-free, and appreciated that some of the menu items were labelled as gluten-free. However, when we tried to inquire as to the modifications, we received the following responses from out waitress - " I don't know, the kitchen doesn't tell me what they do to the dish" or "If you want your food to be gluten free, just order the dish" or "this our last piece of the gluten-free dessert, you are lucky".
We finally got the kitchen manager to come out and he was fantastic. He clearly knew what was in each dish, and gave us some additional options.
We know that it is hard for restaurants to offer gluten-free options, and it is also hard having to be on a gluten-free diet. Neither is made easy when the wait staff is ambivalent to the concerns of the customers. Our tip certainly reflected that service.
However, when we received our food, it was excellent.
