.get married...lots of people get married here on the beach…very photogenic
.take a nap...in the shade of a banyan tree while being cooled by tropical breeze
.swim in a calm lagoon…perfect for toddlers or doing laps
.walk…a nice set of paths allow you to get in that hour of exercise with super scenery.
.read a book…did I mention in the shade of a banyan tree while being cooled by tropical breeze?

This man made beach and lagoon is great to swim laps in, since there are no waves. Perfect for kids to play without worry about undertow, there is a rock wall enclosing this pretty little beach.

Magic Island was so easy to get to - catch the pink line trolley from waikiki beach area to ala moana shopping centre and it is just across the road about 5mins walk from the shops.
The water at Magic Island is so crystal clear - and i loved that there was no one but me and another couple there. So not a touristy place like waikiki beach (which is so overated).
Magic Island is also i think the best place to watch the Friday night fireworks that they put on at the Hilton. Great views of the fireworks from here. And the sunset is spectacular.. sure you can get a good sunset from anywhere on waikiki beach, but i never had any as good as i did this day when i went to magic island.
Next time i go back to Honolulu, i will definately be coming here again.

My wife and I have been coming to Honolulu for two years, and have found that Magic Island is truly "magic". The other Honolulu and Waikiki beaches are very nice, but usually so very crowded. Magic Island, and extension of Ala Moana Beach is beautiful and offers terrific views, including Diamond Head. The beach is also not usually very crowded. I don't remember a day with more than 20 people there. There is room to walk, job, take photos, sun, just sit and watch the people and boats, and swim in the protected pool area. There is a lifeguard station. Magic Island is often featured in air views on episodes of Hawaii Five-O. There is also a nearby bus stop for easy transportation, and the Ala Moana Center(mall), the largest in the US, is just across the street. Don't tell too many people, or it could become as crowded as the wall-to-wall Waikiki beaches. One downside to the area is the number of homeless camping in the park and therefore it is not recommended to visit there after dark.

One of the big pluses of living downtown or in suburbs of Honolulu is Ala Moana Park and Magic Island peninsula. Watching canoes, fishermen, Diamond Head and the Waikiki skyline are on the East side; Waves, sunbathers, sunsets to die for on the West Side. Protected swimming cove and a jogging/walking path surround it and are frequented by all types of people walking, jogging, biking and gazing at the changing seascapes. Endless sunsets are the show of the day, and the surf crashing onto the tip of the island makes it alive. The pathways and grassy areas are badly! in need of upkeep and care, however, due to heavy use. Signs that say NO DOGS should be obeyed but are not; after all the grass is used to sit and eat meals upon! Magic Island will not be magical for long unless these needs are met.
