“Take the Tantalus Drive on your way down”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

Besides the obvious reason to visit this park, which is to enjoy a great top view of Honolulu including the Diamond Head, you can also kill two rabbits with one stone and do the Tantalus Drive on your way down. To do so, turn LEFT after crossing the main gate on your way out for. Too bad they close early during winter, so you can’t be there for the sunset but the Puu Ualakaa is a must do!

“Beautiful View of Honolulu and Waikiki”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Recommend stopping by the Puu Ualakaa State Park if you are in the area, i.e. stopping by the Pacific Memorial Cemetery or driving through the Round Top Loop Drive. There is a great spot to see Honolulu and Waikiki from above. One word of caution, the road leading to this parks is very narrow and numerous sharp turns; drive the speed limit and stay in your lane when rounding corners.

“Amazing drive!”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

This was a lovely park with an amazing view over the entire south shore. The drive to the top was winding and beautiful! Park had a police office in the parking lot. Breeze was perfect. Got there early afternoon.

“Best kept secret in Hawaii”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

If you have a car, this is a must stop. We came here during sunset and it was amazing. You get a complete panorama view of Honolulu and the surrounding area, including Diamond Head. There is a nice grass area to lay down and read a book if you have the time. The only warning I would give is that when we went, a car got broken into! Be mindful of your surroundings and obviously make sure you keep all valuables out of the car. Otherwise, I think this place trumps all other places (including beaches) for the best place to view a sunset.

“Very pretty”

Great views. Worth driving out of the way. Nice trails. Lots of free parking. Picnic tables. Lots of people seem to walk their dogs there.
