“Best Lookout on Oahu”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Please do yourself a favor and take the Round Top/Tantalus Drive and stop at this lovely park. The lookout to Diamond Head and Honolulu is spectacular and makes for a great photo album cover page. This was well worth a 30 minute diversion.

“Great View”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

I agree with all the other reviewers, Great view. Set gps and it took me right to it in less time than I had thought. What do those homes on the side of the mountain do in a heavy rain?

“Beautiful”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

We decided to do this on our last day because we wanted to stay close to Honolulu for our afternoon flight home. It was not easy to find as the tripadvisor address was incorrect. Finally we asked around and found our way up. The road up was very beautiful and we stopped to take a few pictures.

When you enter the park, the road forks and you want to stay to the left to get to the look out point. It was raining up there, but still very beautiful. There was a covered area where people were hiding from the rain. We ran into the shelter and waited a bit. We decided that the rain was not going to stop, so when it slowed down a bit, we went out to the lookout point to take a few pictures. It was very much worth the effort. It is a beautiful view of the city.

“Driving Tour and Mount Tantalus”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

If you have your own rental car, be sure to drive from Honolulu along the coast towards Kailua on Kalanianaole Hwy 72 for some amazing and breathtaking views -- literally mountains on one side of the road and ocean on the other side. Spend the day in Kailua or Lanikai, then time your trip back to Honolulu to go through Puu Ualakaa State Park to see the sunset atop Mount Tantalus. The view is magnificent.

“Better view than from Diamond Head”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

After visiting National Pacific Cemetery we decided to take a right hand turn and drive the Tantalus/Round Top Drives before returning to Honolulu. This is a famous road with many hairpin turns that are featured in car chases in the original Hawaii-50, Magnum PI and a number of movies. It's fun to drive, but also has some terrific lookoffs. There weren't many people around when we drove it and it was incredibly quiet at the highest point where there are lookoffs on both sides. Lots of birds singing and lush vegetaion. The real highlight of this drive is the viewpoint in Pu'u 'Ualaka'a State Park which is a short drive off Round Top Drive. Quite simply the view is better than that at Diamond Head - in fact you look down on Diamond Head from here. It was a bit overcast when we visited so the photos don't do justice to the view.
