Great intimate dinner setting. Good food with local ingredients. Service was great, very attentive even when they were really busy.

...eating here. I'm. Sure others did, though, as the restaurant was packed. I personally felt as if was neither upscale nor local dining. Too much noise. Lots of drinking.

During a recent trip to Oahu, some clients took me to dinner at the 12th Avenue Grill. Everything was exceptional! They employ a farm to table concept- using fresh, local Hawaii ingredients to create fanciful dishes like their Local Vanilla & Orange Braised Beef Cheeks. Our table started by sharing mac & cheese and their Big Island red beet gnocchi. The gnocchi was so flavorful and rich- savory with a hint of sweetness from the lovely balsamic reduction. For entrees, we all decided to try something from their list of nightly specials- smoked paprika monchong (fish), beef brisket. I couldn't resist the tacos de lengua- coriander dusted Maui beef tongue tacos. They were dressed with Ka'u orange marinated cabbage and pico de gallo made from Hau'ula tomatoes. The beef was so tender that it just melted in your mouth. Muy delicioso! Unlike similar establishments, their portions were very generous. And although we were stuffed, we couldn't resist ordering a couple of desserts to share- the fruit crisp (huge & heaping) and their mochi (sweet rice cake). They had to roll me out of there, but it was well worth it!

We finally had our first visit to 12th Avenue Grill for dinner with friends. Enjoyed a wonderful red beet gnocchi and the flat iron steak, perfectly cooked, with scalloped potatoes and a raw brussel sprout salad...and for dessert, mango and rhubarb crisp with vanilla gelato. Heaven! What took us so long to get here.

12th Ave Grill moved from their tiny, noisy space to a larger, noisy place just up the street in the heart of Kaimuki. It is still great fun -- tasty dishes, freindly staff, and a cheerfully boisterous and casual atmosphere. Duck noodles were terrific; mahi-mahi in beer batter and chips melted in the mouth; desserts were not deconstructed architectural models as you might find in some other upscale places, but rather straightforward traditional choices -- all excellent. Nice place for a night out -- even if we had to shout a few times to be heard!
