Description: The Hau Tree Lanai is perhaps Honolulu's favorite beachside restaurant. Locals gravitate to its ideal location, just outside Waikiki proper and at the beginning of Diamond Head's Gold Coast. The restaurant is located in The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel, an ideal place to start the day, enjoy a leisurely lunch or a romantic sunset dinner.

This would have to be the best restaurant in Waikiki for the view. Food was reasonable but sitting under the tree and watching the world go by is simply brilliant.

Don't go there REALLY hungry because the prices are outrageous for only a small portion of food. The shrimp is delicious if you don't mind paying $40 for only 5 pieces of tempura. The puu puus are decent but all over $20/plate.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local resident, and it was definitely a find. It is a bit on the expensive side, so you need to know that before reserving a table. And, you do need to make reservations. I would recommend making reservations for 5:30 pm, right when they open, so you can be there for sunset. We were there in November, so the sun was setting about 6 or 630... We had a table right at the railing with a great view of the ocean through the branches of the huge tree that you see in the picture posted above. It truly was a wonderful dinner.

They are very attentive and willing and able to answer all questions. We had cocktails first, and you do not feel rushed at all. The seafood entrees and appetizers were freshly prepared, my husband had the fish of the day prepared Asian style. I had the shrimp scampi -- wonderful.

Would recommend this place.

My wife and I dined here the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a reservation and were seated next to the outer railing and had a great view of the sunset. The service was excellent and we both ordered the Mixed Seafood Grill and enjoyed it. The menu is a little pricy but you are also paying for the view and the service so we didn't mind at all. While we were there there was a rain shower and we were impressed by how the waitstaff handled moving diners from out of the rain to tables in a covered and dryer location. It makes me think that they have done it before (ha ha). Excellent restaurant for a nice dinner out.

Watered down drinks and poor quality food, extremely disappointing. My gal had the warm chocolate lava cake... 'room temperature' at best, and the cake was very dry. Their mai tai tasted like they used syrups instead of juice, and their coffee came pre-loaded with some sort of awful artificial sweetener.
