Great down-home experience. Parking is tough but other than that, all great. This place is a nit of an institution for the area.

We, a party of 4, lunched here a couple of days ago. There was a short wait for a table. The plates we ordered ranged from excellent to passable. The Takati Sashimi was very fresh; it was excellent. The Miso Chicken was just OK, and parts of it were undercooked. The Island Mahi Mahi had been dipped (or rather drenched) in egg, and it was actually a Mahi Mahi omelette, the taste of which may be acquired (and we had not acquired it). Service was quick and no-nonsense. The walls were covered with pictures of sumo wrestlers and all the other diners appeared to be locals. It was good to get away from the touristy restaurants. Value was excellent.

We actually live in Minnesota. So when I saw the review written about Ethel's Grill, I had to comment about it because on our last trip there in the winter 2010 we stopped there to eat. It was great.

We were in a party of 4 and were looking for something fresh and uniquely Hawaiian to eat. So naturally when we saw the long line to get in, we new it had to have something going on. We were greeted warmly, (I think they could tell we were from out of town. Our Pale Minnesota skin gave us away) and the staff, even though the place was packed with hungery customers, they took the time to tell us about the different dishes they had. Everyone at Ethel's made us feel very welcome. They shared their Aloha with us.

So, if you are a tourist and are looking for the Freshist food and the best value for your money. You must stop at Ethel's Grill. The outside appearence may not be what your expecting as a tourist and of course you may have to stand in line. But once you do, and you taste the food and enjoy the charm of this little jem, you will be in a place just like heaven.

Wow. That sounded just like the food critic that I'm not. But everything I said was true. Mahalo to everyone at Ethel's Grill. We'll be back this December.

Great food, great prices. The place is tiny so take out or be ready to wait to sit down.
