“Amazingly fresh fish”
Reviewed August 31, 2013 via mobile

If you brave the truck park and the strip clubs, you'll be richly rewarded. We stopped off here for a quick lunch before catching a flight out to Big Island. The soft shell crab and the scallops were a particular highlight, but everything we had here was delicious. It was also amazing to sit at the bar and watch the sushi chef at work. We chatted to some locals sitting behind us who come here all the time and were raving about it. We're back in Honolulu for a night next week and I hope to make a return visit!

“As good as it gets outside Japan”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

This is an authentic Japanese restaurant in both atmosphere and food. It gives the appearance of a hole in the wall, but well worth the effort to find. Inside, Akasaka has the decor and the feel of a good family-owned restaurant of the sort you'd find in Japan (where I've lived and traveled extensively). A real find--first rate, and friendly as well. And the scallops are really something special.

“Amazing sushi”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

This is a very authentic Japanese sushi bar, with a few tables and (I think) an upstairs room for groups. The fish was amazingly fresh -- whether this is true throughout Hawaii or not, I don't know, but we appreciated it.

If you don't know Japanese osakaya cuisine, you're not given much English description in the menu, so go in with an open mind and palate, and you won't be disappointed. It is a bit hard to find, and sandwiched between a dive bar and a strip club, but it is worth it.

“Hands down the best sushi”
Reviewed November 29, 2011

Yes, this little spot is crammed between strip joints. Yes, parking can be a challenge on weekends. But when you pop some of the freshest fish on the planet in your mouth, you will understand why even Japanese tourists come here. Good prices and ice cold beer with a wide selection of sake.
