Wanted Dim Sum for lunch on a Sunday and decieded to go down to China Town to eat. We went Down town to the Chinese Cultural plaza knowing there are many Dim sum places to choose. We were headed to Legend Seafood Restaurant which has a 3.5 star rating on another blog site, but it was crowded so we decieded to go to Empress Restaurant. Long ago Empress was a star attraction in China town. It is a very large chinese restaurant and is also used for large funtions, like weddings and birthday. It is not the same restaurant, it has lost it's galmor and is run down. The interior needs to be fixed up.
First off it is very large, but when we walked in there was a sign "seat your self" so we try to seat our selves (party of 2) in this 100+ table restaurant. Took a while for anyone to come to our table and the 2 Dim Sum Carts took a good 15-20 min. to reach us. Service was just poor although there was an older man who kept pouring our water, and the waitres who took of kitchen order was nice. We had the shrimp roll, shrimp and water cress, char siu bow, look fun, pork hash, and we also ordered from the kitchen the beef with vegtable chow fun with gravy and 1/2 order peeking duck. It tok a long time for the kitchen order to come out.
The food was standard, nothing to brag home about. The peeking duck was $18.00 and not worth it. The beef with vegitable chow fun with gravy was not tasty. Overall bill was $40.00. Parking was $2.00 with validation.
Overall was a rather poor to plain outing, a wasted meal. We will not return here. Try another place.
