is a propaganda machine churning out misinformation and hype about this landmark joint. Generations of visitors have eaten their first plate lunch here and report how "wonderful" it was, Just not true. Mediocre at best. Their are 250 better places on Oahu to get a better plate lunch than this over-hyped place..

Saw the Dinners Drive-In 7 Dives show about the Rainbow Drive- In and walked over there from my hotel. It is a local place with a constant walk up crowd. The Hawaii favorite is the Loco Moco (sticky rice covered by two burgers with gravy topped with 2 fried eggs) with a mac salad. It is well worth a trip over there. The Loco Moto is different and worth trying.

NOT healthy eating. But locals love the place. Salty, fatty, high cholesterol, heavy carbs. Be sure to off set the food here by eating a healthy meal elsewhere.

I asked the clerk at my hotel where to get authentic Plate Lunch and she pointed me to Rainbow. Dependable and authentic, when I went for early dinner around sunset - it was all locals. Some even brought their own side dishes from the Foodland.

I wish they still had beef stew but ran out on Sunday night. Went back on Wednesday for chili - and they ran out of that too. That just shows you that this place is good. Their daily specials run out.

I got the mix plate. Pasta mix in mayo literally. Fried chicken and mahi mahi are disgusting. Bbq was ok. My son's chicken sandwich, chicken was pink. The tables are dirty. Family of 5 just gave up, none of us enjoyed it and just threw our food away.:(
