“Don't be put off by the cranky male waiter, the dim sum is worth it”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013

You order dim sum off a menu here. Taro puffs were crunchy, shanghai dumplings were perfectly seasoned, shrimp look fun was not over glutinous... Tea was weak but was included. This was decent dim sum, in an old school atmosphere - Formica tables, laminated menus, interesting walls and decorative touches, fluorescent lighting... Still a favorite. Still inexpensive.

“Very good food, reasonable price”

Mei Sum was recommended to us by some locals. Very good food, nice variety & very reasonably priced. Come for the food, not the atmosphere or service.

“Top Dim Sum In Honolulu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

Honolulu's Chinatown has seen a wave of dim sum palaces come and go. That's to be expected when you consider that in China dim sum are lite bites served for brunch and they carry matching small prices. It's hard to pay the rent out of a cash register ringing up low dollar checks! Meanwhile Mei Sum Dim Sum has prospered largely thanks to an extensive menu, total freshness and high quality product. We've sampled a lot of similar establishments and this is definitely the real deal

“Awesome food....rude staff. will go again”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

The house special cake noodles and salt and pepper pork chops are to die for. I deal with the rudeness of the employees because the food is so great. Please understand that the culture of these employees dictates that their rudeness is okay. Food definitely worth it though

“Dim Sum, "Touch the Heart"? Not Here! Pluck the Nerve.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Dim Sum is translated as small treats which touch the Heart.
In an earlier review, this writer described the service as "Brusk". That last experience preceded a quiet personal boycott of Mei Sum. After two years, the craving for this Heart to be touched, was motivation to give the restaurant another try.
The service had then been brusk. On this new day it is not merely brusk. Service is rude, as if the diner had interrupted the servers' important and interesting activities. Despite a kitchen which produces treats which could indeed "touch the Heart", the staff at the front of the house succeeds in plucking last nerves.
