Description: Hoku's at The Kahala Hotel & Resort is heralded for its innovative fusion fare which melds Hawaiian, Asian, Mediterranean and European flavors. The restaurant's twist on contemporary Island cuisine ensures that it is consistently ranked as one of Hawaii's best restaurants. Hoku's has a breathtaking beach-side setting with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from every table in the multi-level dining room. Also competing for guest's attention is the open kitchen featuring fiery hot woks, a kiawe wood grill, and tandoori and wood-burning ovens.

Recommend the seafood pasta and imperial prawns. The tuna spread served with the bread was so good my wife (who refuses to eat raw fish) even got into it - I complimented it to the waiter and she brought me a second bowl without being asked. Three waiters served us without being obtrusive and were always ready when wanted. Very impressed with how thoughtfully they served a large family at an adjacent table. They had two babies and two younger boys, and 3 of the staff arranged 2 chairs in a way one could sleep; and since the family was non-English speaking, all the offerings were patiently described. Ask for a window seat to get a good ocean view.

The bread and spread served to start off your meal is perfect. Wonderful service and the most delicious whole fish ever! Its best if you call ahead to pre-order because they may run out. Perfection!

very mediocre food for the price... we were shocked. We expected the food to be great, but were very disappointed.

We ate at Hoku's the last evening of our stay at the Kahala Hotel & Resort and had high expectations for our dinner at Hoku's. I'm happy to say that we were not disappointed, not in the least bit. We started with the Tempura Shortribs and the Tuna Musubi. The food was absolutely delicious, not to mention that the portions were very generous. We had "India Bob" and another waitress serving and both were an absolute delight. They not only knew the food at the restaurant but genuinely chatted with us throughout our meal. For the main course we had the Cantonese styled fried shrimp -- this was good but my Salt Crusted Lamb was the best I have ever had. Not only was it flavorable but was tender and juicy (cooked to the chef's recommendation of medium). Absolutely loved it and was so stuffed! But still just had to leave room for dessert, for which we chose some light and fruity sorbets. Strongly recommend the musubi and the salt crusted lamb.
