If your main interest in going to a luau is the food save yourself a lot of money and just go to ONO. You will get real Hawaiian food at a reasonable cost without the cheesy entertainment. The restaurant is simple and small so it can get crowded but they move people through fast. The pork is excellent.

Every time in Honolulu, our first stop is Ono Hawaiian Food. It's within walking distance of Waikiki, about a 20 minute walk. The pork lau lau with poi is our favorite. Very large lau lau's. Many items on the menu, so try a variety of items. Very popular place for the locals, so is quite busy during lunch & dinner hours. It's a small hole in the wall kind of place, but don't let that stop you. If you have to wait for a table outside, it's worth the wait. Nothing fancy, just good hearty Hawaiian food.
Closed on Sundays.

This is where the locals go. It is Zagat rated and fantastic. On the outside of the modest building, a handwritten sign instructs patrons, "Make a line to the right. Don't get mad. We will seat you when we can." The folks there were absolutely friendly, and eager to familiarize our group with the menu, and what might work best for our adults and children group of 12. Very unpretentious environment. Went for the combo meal - Kalua pig, (kiddos loved this - kind of like pulled pork), Blue Hawaiian Sweet Potatoes, haupia custard and much more. This place is BYOB, and does not take reservations. If you want a night free of overpriced, commercialized chain food, GO here!

A genuine, authentic Hawaiian food restaurant. Restaurant very out of the way but worth finding. Reasonably priced and you get a lot of food. Server very helpful in talking about what the Hawaiian meals are and how to properly eat them. Service was great. Initially apprehensive about trying the food but enjoyed all of it.

My husband, boys (ages 8,6,3) stumbled upon this place. So we decided to give it a try. It was great hawaiian food. The older gentlemen who seated us wasn't friendly at all, but then the older woman that was there took good care of us. She explain how to eat the food, and gave us great service. We'll be back!!!
