“Incredible Sushi Date Night”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

Sushi Sasabune is an EXCELLENT place for a special occasion dinner. It is pricey so definitely not a place to go regularly (Our bill was $200 for 2 ppl) but a perfect place for a special place if you like sushi. The way it works is that the chef "surprises" you with different dishes. The dishes will keep coming out until you let them know you are getting full and then you are charged by the amount of different dishes. The sushi is Japanese style... (Not made into rolls. A bite size slice of fish on top of rice) It was probably the best sushi I have ever tasted. Every bite was so fresh and tender.. Just melts in your mouth. The service is OUTSTANDING. Great spot for a special date night looking for something a little different. LOVED IT!

“Delicious extravagance”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We made it through all 13 courses of the Western omakase menu at lunch. The freshest, most beautifully prepared sushi we have ever had (note: we've never been to Japan). We had done our research on the do's and don't's of protocol, but we were nonetheless prepared to be called out for some social solecisms and had vowed to take it in stride. However, sitting at the bar, we had a great experience and although we sensed we were being observed closely, the service was amazing and lightning-speed attentive. The concept of "trust me" goes both ways: you the diner place your trust in the chef and his staff, who in turn want to trust that you will appreciate their efforts to bring you beautiful sushi. Highlights included the house specialty, negitoro (finely chopped fatty tuna with scallion), toro (truly melt-in-your-mouth tuna), squid stuffed with Louisiana blue crab, and anago on tamagoyaki (eel on a fluffy omelet cake), the last of which the chef advised us we could cut in half (all of the other nigiri is to be eaten in one bite). The final course was a blue crab hand roll that, from a flavour standpoint, was a bit of a muted note on which to end the meal, but overall this was a masterful dining experience. Note: Reservations appear to be required at lunch. We saw a couple who were turned away without one, although the restaurant was only half-full.

“Best sushi food experience we have had”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

We enjoyed our visit to Sushi Sasabune from the service, to the food preparation, the taste, and over all experience. They took the time to contact us first before we even arrived just to let us know that this is an authentic sushi restaurant. That being said, we jumped right in and there isn't one dish we didn't enjoy. If you enjoy sushi, try this restaurant. Even the simplest of dishes taste completely different. They always give you several condiment options to eat with and suggest the best option for you. Chef's choice is the way to go here!!

“Best sushi I've ever had!”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

This place's motto is 'trust me.' I did and it was the best sushi experience I've had. This place is in a non-description strip of stores, but step inside to a lively crew of amazing sushi chefs. Sit at sushi bar and partake in the chef's choice experience where the chefs choose and prepare everything for you and then tell you about the divine bites you are about to eat as well as how to eat them. Each bite was better than the last and the chefs were delightful. If you are a sushi lover, do not pass up this place!
