“Average Italian in a Seedy Neighborhood”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

This place is right on the corner of a very busy intersection. You have to park on the street
with city meters.
We were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated at a window location.
They have happy hour from 4-6 PM. Draft beer is $4 and Chardonnay is $5.
They also have deals on PuPus.
We ordered the clam chowder. It was thick and creamy, but with minimum clams in it.
My BW ordered the Madeline salad. It had baby greens, pear slices, candied walnuts,
and Gorgonzola cheese dressing. This was tasty.
I ordered the fried eggplant with garlic pasta.
The breading tasted greasy, and it was over cooked.
The spaghetti pasta was covered with a bitter garlic coating instead of a sweet butter.
They served 4 small garlic/Parmesan rolls that were stale.
Our server was very helpful.

“Good food. A small "local" place”
Reviewed January 12, 2012

This little restaurant is located at 1099 S. Beretania St. right on the corner of Beretania and Pensacola. It's just down the block from the Safeway store. I noticed it when we drove by after getting groceries one year, and after checking the on line reviews we decided to try it. We now go there every year when we are in town. There is street parking and we have never had a problem getting a spot. It's a local favorite so we go early to avoid having to wait. The portions are generous. We usually order a salad and a spaghetti dinner with an extra plate and share. Bread comes with the meal. It's plenty of food for us. The women's restroom is a little strange. You walk through a door out into a sort of shed then into what appears to be an "add on" which is the one person "ladies room". Our salad was $4, the spaghetti and meatballs $8.95. Our total bill was $13.56 plus tip. We would recommend it for a nice meal.

“pasto's sloppy”
Reviewed November 29, 2009

I've cooked in many a restaurant and feel that presentation is a priority. Maybe it was an off nite but still it was sloppy, no care to how it looked and tasted like it was put together with all the convenience of a 7-11 cheese burger....not much balance to much heavy flavors. Don't think i'll return........Sorry auntie.

“Kitchen cleanliness”
Reviewed September 2, 2007

The Auntie Pasto's at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center in Maui recently opened.

I've been there 3 times (twice we ate at the bar). Am I the only one noticing that when the workers are tending the pizza oven, they rest the "spatula" on the ground, where everyone walks?? This happened both times I was at the bar, so I can only say that it's normal routine. A letter will be sent to them and copied to the Dept. of Health.

Food reviews:

Margherita pizza: Soggy, no cheese.

Pepperoni, mushroom & olive pizza: Good! Big lack of mushrooms, though. A total of about 4 mushrooms was used for this 10" pizza!?!

Carbonara spaghetti: Very good. A little too much basil.

Bolognese spaghetti: Pretty dry; carrots were mixed in the sauce. Go for the meatballs & spaghetti, which is more wet & tastes a whole lot better.

Seafood spaghetti: It's okay... even if it states it's their #1 seller. It was loaded with seafood, but the taste was very bland.

Shrimp scampi spaghetti: Very tasteless. Shrimps were tasty, but the sauce was not. I must've used half the bottle of cheese.
