This spot wouldn't be for everyone. It's very old school French, expensive, but still well worth it. The food was delicious, service impeccable and the wine list very good. All this comes at a price so reserve for special occasions. The view and setting is delightful so try and arrive prior to sunset.

Because of the great location with beautiful sunset view of Pacific ocean, this restaurant tends to be crowded. Caesar salad and lobster bisque served tableside was great. Entrees not so great. Service was extremely slow. Wine price was very good. I would still come in special occasions but avoid weekends.

Let me preface this review with the statement that no, I am not a totally negative person, though you might think so from this post (check out my other overwhelmingly positive reviews on this site!). This was just not a good experience for us. Everyone has them sometimes and this seems to have been ours so take it with a grain of salt - you mileage would hopefully vary to be more in line with all of the other reviews.

We had heard from friends and family that we should try Michel's. We also saw all of the positive reviews and were very much looking forward to our dinner.

Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed.

The restaurant is interesting. Seems a bit 70s or 80s retro - lots of flaming dishes and tableside preparations. If that if your thing, you will love it. Unfortunately, given the negatives of our experience, we did not.

First, we were given probably the worst table - right by the door to the kitchen. Yes, I know someone has to have it, and I tried to keep an open mind that the food and service would make up for it. They didn't.

Second, our service was quite lackluster. None of the great experiences others have mentioned. Our server was indifferent at best.

Finally, the food was a C+ at best. We both had the seafood platter and felt we could have had similar food many places. Perhaps the soufflé would have changed the evening but our server forgot to order it and we weren't willing to wait. We also found the wine list to be fairly limited.

Given the high prices, none of the above should have been acceptable to the restaurant and we were hit with all three.

I am glad that others have enjoyed it and hope we absorbed all the bad mojo. But unfortunately it means I can't give Michel's a good review.

This was the first stop of our 4-week vacation and I could not be more pleased with the selection. Reservations were made months in advance and we were rewarded with dare I say the best table in the house affording us an excellent picture perfect view of the sunset, the city lights and all.

We had the six course tasting menu for our 12th anniversary celebration with performance by Grammy award winning slack guitarist Jeff Peterson throughout the night. The ambiance was absolutely perfect and the staff professional and accommodating. The food was good- we loved the Hawaiian yellowfin ahi with pineapple coleslaw and mango mustard served on a crispy won ton. We also liked the seared diver scallop on saffron risotto and the veal tenderloin. Overall the menu lacked the sophistication of New York's fine dining restaurants but the great ambiance made the entire experience five-stars for us.

Highly recommended, make sure you arrive early to catch the sunset, try to get a beachfront table and check when Jeff Peterson is performing.

Excellent service, with excellent food great views. A very special place for a special night. Not a typical tourist haunt, but a classy restaurant where guests are treated like royalty. When you want something extraordinary in a dining experience in Honolulu, this is the place. Chef is world class.
