“Best burgers ever.”
Reviewed March 3, 2011

Loved the "Bloming Onion" as an app. (could be a meal!!)
5 of us shared it. We all had something different and only one peoson did not like what they had. She ordered the Chowder. Said it was very "spicy".
I had the steak/baked potato/salad and my adult daughter had the hamburger. Which she still raves about. Think one person ordered a chicken dish and the othere I do not remember, But from my view I would
go back and would recommend any thing that we had.

For far too much money, you too can have a rude wait staff, drinks taken from you before you've finished them, and steaks that cost thirty dollars that use five dollar cuts and are cooked incorrectly with the wrong side dishes. This is the worst eatery I went to during a two week stay in Hawaii and by far the most expensive.

“Disappointing food... too expensive”
Reviewed July 16, 2010

We visited June 30/2010 for dinner. The location was close to Hilton Lagoon tower where we were staying. This is our first visit to Outback but we had heard good things about this chain so decided to try it. We love steak, prime rib and baby back ribs so we were excited.

We ordered the following:

Onion blossom - only thing that was good in our meal.

Full rack of baby back ribs with fries-- very tough/dry. Not sure if we actually got baby back ribs or regular ribs. Also it might have been old and/or overcooked.

Prime rib with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies - colour was off. It looked like it was boiled. Absolutely no flavour. I asked for gravy but that was not available, only au jus and horseradish. For seasonal veggies, I got some baby carrots which were half cooked. Mashed potatoes were good.

Kids meal - bbq chicken - OK
Kids meal - sirloin steak - tough. My kids wouldn't eat it.

Price was quite high. I don't recommend this restaurant at all. Maybe another location might be better, but definitely not this one on Ala Moana.

“Very bad location!”
Reviewed January 15, 2010

My rost beef was cold, my wifes chicken was over done my mothers salad made her sick. This place seams to not be able to get anything right in the kitchen. Don't bother and go a block in either direction and you can find much better.

“Higher Prices, Most of the Same Great Menu Items”
Reviewed January 8, 2010

If you're a newcomer to Hawaii, you may be surprised at how much higher the dining prices are. If you've seen those great ads for value dining at the national chains, you'll be disappointed to find that most island locations don't honor the advertising and don't feature the specials. Higher prices for all --- that's the norm. That's true for Outback, Chili's, Denny's and most other frequently-advertised chain restaurants.

If you've adjusted to that, and plan to dine out anyway, you'll find most of the same menu items, with some exceptions. Outback Steakhouse on Ala Moana is near the mall, near the surf, and --- if you're of a certain age --- immediately near the marina where the opening sequence of "Gilligan's Island" was filmed. Leave the restaurant, walk around back to the ocean side (1 block) and you'll see the scene.

This Outback location featured friendly service, great food, most of the menu items you'd find on the east or west coast, or in the midwest. One glaring exception: sweet potatoes. If you're used to ordering a "loaded" sweet potato at Outback, you won't find that item in the islands --- not at any of the Outbacks here.

Outback's mainland "value" menu with items around $10 is mostly available here, but expect to pay $15 for the same items. Steaks are $22-$28 and up. Try sharing a meal if you enjoy dining out, but can't handle the sticker shock.

Also note: If you're a frequent Outbacker and you "know" they open at 4 PM daily, be warned that they open later here. 5 PM on weekdays for most island Outbacks; a few open at 4:30 PM. If you're hoping to walk in the door at 4 and get the first table, you'll be surprised and disappointed.
