Yanagi Sushi, a popular Japanese restaurant located on Kapiolani Boulevard is known for its fresh sashimi. Reservations, especially on weekends are recommended as it is very popular with tourists and locals alike. We ordered sushi ala carte, and the "trio", consisting of four-five pieces each of maguro, (ahi tuna), hamachi (yellowtail) and salmon. (Cost: $25) The salmon was topped with generous portions of sweet (Maui) onions, enhancing its flavor. These meals do not come with soup or even rice but we always order a bowl of rice to go along with the Trio. ($1.95) Yanagi Sushi offers a very extensive menu- teishoku combinations including many meat, fish and sushi options. Because the menu is so varied, it is difficult to decide. There is something for everyone- whether you prefer the cooked items or sashimi. The menu also includes special sushi rolls-- We prefer the standard sashimi- its so fresh, its the best!
Beverages are also plentiful. They offer at least a half dozen sake samplers. For $10 you can have three generous sake cups of grade Fine "B" sake. Always consistently good, Yanagi Sushi is the favorite choice for high quality Japanese food, especially sashimi or sushi. The one drawback is the parking is very small and cramped. Valets are available to park your car.
