“Interesting food that actually tastes good!”
Reviewed February 18, 2014

Our dinner here was the best meal we have ever eaten in Hawaii. Unlike many restaurants that boast of "creative" cuisine, this one serves food you can enjoy eating. The unusual combinations of tastes really work!

The cuisine is billed as "Hawaiian regional," meaning that it draws inspiration from all the various national and ethnic groups in the Islands. Others might label it "Asian fusion." No matter. Foodies come from all over to taste it.

We were told the smartest approach was to order the $85 tasting menu, which offers some of the most popular dishes in the restaurant and also saves a lot of confusion. This turned out to be excellent advice, and the menu was a decent value as well.

Useful factoid: This menu can be at least somewhat flexible. The night we were there, my partner couldn't eat one item on the menu, and I just didn't like it. The waiter happily offered to substitute another course.

Service is very efficient and friendly. The atmosphere isn't particularly elegant, but it is pleasant. The restaurant is located in a surprisingly nondescript part of Honolulu. An energetic person could walk from Waikiki, but most people seem to prefer the 10-minute cab ride, which costs $10 or so. Bottom line: If you're planning to eat in one really memorable restaurant in Hawaii, this would be a great candidate.

“This restaurant is a must go!”

Alan Wong's is one of the best restaurants on the island!
I highly recommend the Chopped Ahi Sashimi and Avocado Salsa Stack and Da Bag as a starter. For an entree, I loved the Short Rib(Soy Braised and Grilled "Kalbi" Style.) It was amazing.
Excellent wine and cocktail list.

Out for a family dinner and once again this place shines , the private label Chardonnay is great , the food is amazingly good and the service impeccable .
If you want an unforgettable experience this is it . Try for a table on the lanai and be sure to try da bag , a wonderful combination of seafood and pork .

“Fit for a President”
Reviewed February 10, 2014 via mobile

AW serves food that draws upon many influences. The flavors are pure, straightforward and imbued with Hawaii's cultural roots. The wine and beer lists are very good and the staff is well informed regarding the dishes. The space is open and convivial. Prices are definitely on the high side, even for Honolulu. Da Bag and coconut sorbet dessert are musts and keep in mind that mains run $30-60, some without sides. Obama enjoys eating here, so bring your presidential budget. The restaurant is away from the main tourist areas so you will need a taxi.
