We tried to get a restaurant booking here but the wait was too long so took the host's advice to try our luck at the bar. This turned out to be a perfect option for us. A table overlooking the beach came up straight away where we could enjoy the sunset and sea breeze whilst sipping on Mai Tai's and enjoying a great value meal. A word of advice, the Hula Pie dessert is a perfect end to the meal but is enormous, make sure your share!

Duke's is a solid restaurant with solid food. Prices are a little high, but it's Honolulu right on Waikiki Beach. Wait staff are a little spacey sometimes, and forgetful. Hostess scolded my hubby for bringing a beer he purchased on pool deck out of restaurant area. He felt like she was treating him like a child. Another waitress forgot to put our order in for food, but oddly brought us our drinks we ordered at same time as food? All in all good location, with solid food, but not perfect by any means.

Is it touristy? Yes...do you care when you're a tourist in Hawaii? Well, you shouldn't. The food is great, especially the buffet. Even though you're in a chain, the hawaiian fare on the buffet is equal to any local place you'll find.

I had heard that this was THE place to go on a Saturday evening, I wasn't all too impressed. The service at this place was great but the food was average, prices were also average. The location though was great, right by the beach.
As for the atmosphere, I suppose at what time and with what company you go. I was with family, with a couple of young children on a Saturday night, sitting next to us was a table of very loud, drunk and obnoxious tourists. The size of the table continued to grow until they were sitting on top of us. This destroyed the atmosphere for me.

The food is great and so is the Kona Beer on tap! It's open air and the ocean view is lively. Service is friendly and thorough. We have been to every Duke's there is and they are consistent.
